Sergeant Major Francisco A. Serrano is a native of San Salvador, El Salvador, attended recruit training aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Ca in 1990.  Upon graduation from recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training, followed by School of Infantry in Camp Pendleton Ca.  Sergeant Major  Serrano then joined the Fleet Marine Forces, 1st marines, 9th Battalion, (MEUSOC) where he deployed to the Persian Gulf on board the USS Cleveland.  In 1993, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan with 1st Marines, 5th Battalion to participate in a West Pacific Float on board the USS San Bernardino.  Upon returning to Camp Pendleton,  Sergeant Major Serrano Joined Marine Combat Battalion, (MCT) as a Troop Leader and Heavy Machine Gun Instructor.  While at Marine Combat Training Battalion, he attended and graduated from Close Combat Instructor School, (CCI) and Mountain Warfare Survivor School in Bridgeport Ca.  In 1996, Sergeant Major Serrano attended and graduated from  Aerial Door Gunnery School in El Toro, Ca.  

Sergeant Major Serrano left active duty in December, 1997 and returned to the Selected Marine Corps Reserve in 1999.  Sergeant Major Serrano joined Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines in Los Alamitos Ca.  In July 2001, Sergeant Major Serrano attended the Low Altitude Air Defense, (LAAD) achieving a secondary MOS of 7212.  He then joined 4th LAAD, in Pasadena, Ca.  In June, 2004, Sergeant Major Serrano was deployed to Al Anbar Province,  Iraq in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In June 2005, Sergeant Major Serrano was demobilized and transferred to Mobilization Training Battalion, (MTB) SOI-West.  While assigned to Mobilization Training Battalion, he was activated and mobilized in support of OIF and was tasked with assisting and developing training for recalled of IRR Marines identified to support OIF operations.  In 2008, Sergeant Major Serrano was promoted to First Sergeant and assigned to Weapons Company 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines in Port Hueneme, Ca.  Sergeant Major Serrano was activated once again in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and deployed to Ramadi, Iraq.  In March 2010, sergeant major Serrano was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines in Pasadena, Ca. 

Sergeant Major Serrano was selected to his current rank in April, 01, 2013 and was assigned to 3rd ANGLICO in Bell Ca.  His civilian employment, a Sergeant/Supervisor  with the Los Angeles Police Department and is currently assigned to Northeast  Division, Los Angeles Ca.  Sergeant, Major Serrano’s personal awards include, Meritorious Service Metal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, 3rd award, Combat Action Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Metal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with star, Letter of Appreciation.
