Biography

 

Captain Thomas B. Neal
Company Commander
Bravo Company, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion

Captain Thomas Neel graduated from Briarwood Christian High School in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2009. Following high school, he attended Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 2013. After completing his degree, Captain Neel successfully completed the 10-week Officer Candidate Course in Quantico, VA, and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on March 14, 2014. He then attended the Basic Officer's Course at The Basic School from March 2014 to September 2014 and was subsequently designated as an Assault Amphibian Officer.  

In March 2015, 2nd Lieutenant Neel completed the Assault Amphibian Officer Course, and reported to Company D, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion. During this time, he served as Headquarters Platoon Commander from April 2015 to February 2016, and later as the General Support Platoon Commander H&S Company, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion from February 2016 to January 2018. Afterwards,1st Lieutenant Neel returned to Company D, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion, and assumed the role of Executive Officer, from February 2018 to September 2018.  

In October 2018, Captain Neel was activated and deployed to Mexico as a Marine Corps Advisor, supporting theater security cooperation throughout the country. During this deployment, he served in various capacities, including exercise planning, as an operations and logistics advisor, and as an instructor for the Battalion Staff Planning Course. Following this, he was again activated from June 2020 to April 2021 in support of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) 20.2, where he served as a platoon commander for Assault Amphibian Company, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan.  

From November 2021 to August 2023, Captain Neel held the positions of Assistant Operations Officer and Operations Officer for 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion. He has completed the Marine Advisor Course and the Expeditionary Warfare School. He assumed command of Company B in September 2023.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (x2).
