Biography

 

Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Esposito
Inspector-Instructor
4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion

Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Esposito graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2005 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Upon completion of The Basic School he was designated an Infantry Officer. Following Infantry Officer's Course, Second Lieutenant Esposito was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines in Camp Pendleton, California.

In July of 2007 he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as Rifle Platoon Commander, Lima Company, in Fallujah, Iraq. In December 2008 1st Lieutenant Esposito deployed with Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 3/5 on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) from Okinawa, Japan as the Headquarters and Service Company Executive Officer and Company Commander.

In October 2009 Captain Esposito received orders to The Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group, Twentynine Palms, California. There he acted as a Maneuver and Fires Exercise Controller for the execution of Enhanced Mojave Viper Exercises.

In September of 2011, Captain Esposito reported to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in Twentynine Palms, California. He commanded Delta Company until January 2014. During that time he deployed to Southern Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Inherent Freedom and to Okinawa, Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program with Combat Assault Battalion.

Captain Esposito then reported to Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific in San Diego, California where he served as an Amphibious Warfare Planning instructor.

In July of 2016, Major Esposito was assigned as Operations Officer, 2d Battalion, 6th Marines and deployed to 5th and 6th Fleets as BLT 2/6 with the 26th MEU. In September 2018 he was assigned as the Deputy J3 with the 6th Marine Regiment in support of Task Force Southwest, Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

In July 2020 Major Esposito received orders to Headquarters Marine Corps, Plans, Policies, and Operations at the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. There he served as a Force Management Planner in support of Force Design 2030.

Lieutenant Colonel Esposito is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School (non-resident), and Marine Corps Command and Staff College (non-resident).

Lieutenant Colonel Esposito's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, Navy Commendation Medal with “C” device and 2 Gold Stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
