Biography

 

Colonel Erich B. Bergiel
Deputy Commander, Combat Logistics Regiment 45

Colonel Bergiel is a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, and was commissioned in May of 1995 after graduating from Mississippi State University. After successful completion of The Basic School, he attended the Combat Engineer Officers Course in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was then assigned to the 1st Force Service Support Group, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Pendleton California. While there, he served as a Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, Company Commander, Intelligence Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer at both the Battalion and Group Level.

In November of 1998 Colonel Bergiel assumed command as the Inspector-Instructor for Bulk Fuel Company Alpha, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, Bakersfield, California. While there, he obtained his Masters of Business Administration from California State University Bakersfield.

In June of 2002 Colonel Bergiel left active duty and transitioned to the Individual Ready Reserve (RR). He returned to Mississippi State University to further his education and in 2005, graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Business with a concentration in Organizational Behavior.

In 2005 Colonel Bergiel became an Assistant Professor of Management at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia. He also became an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA), enrolling in Command and Staff and accepting a billet as a Recruiting Support Officer with 6th Marine Corps District and subsequently the Division Engineer Officer for the 4th Marine Division.

In May of 2011, Colonel Bergiel deployed to Helmand Province Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Socio-Economic Development Officer for the II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Upon his return, he served as an Emergency Planning Liaison Officer and then was selected to be the Executive Officer for Combat Logistics Regiment – 45, 4th Marine Logistics Group, Marietta, Georgia.

In May of 2018, Colonel Bergiel deployed to Central America as the Executive Officer for Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – 18. Upon completion of his deployment, he was assigned to the 4th Marine Logistic Group as a Liaison Officer for the Service Component Operational Logistics Augmentation Cell, which is a Korean Theater of Operations centric organization that supports Marine Forces – Korea.

In September of 2019, Colonel Bergiel was selected to be the Deputy Commander of Combat Logistics Regiment-45 and assumed that billet in March of 2020. Colonel Bergiel is a graduate of the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and Air War College. He is also a Full Professor in the Richards College of Business at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA, where he teaches courses in Management, Organizational Behavior, and Leadership.
