Biography

 

Major Michael G. B. Phillips
Inspector-Instructor
Company D, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Major Phillips enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2001. Following initial training, he was assigned to HMT-302 aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina as a CH-53E Crew Chief. In 2003, LCpl Phillips received orders to Marine Security Guard Battalion and subsequently served at U.S. embassies and consulates in Madrid, Spain; Baghdad, Iraq; and Lagos, Nigeria. 
 
Second Lieutenant Phillips commissioned in January, 2010 through Platoon Leaders Class and attended The Basic Officer Course and Infantry Officer Course (IOC) later that year. Upon completion of IOC, Second Lieutenant Phillips was assigned to 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as a Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer.
 
In 2014, after completing the Basic Reconnaissance Course Captain Phillips received orders to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion where he served as a Platoon Commander. In 2015, Captain Phillips was selected to serve as the Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General, 2d Marine Division. In 2016, Captain Phillips joined 2d Marines, where he served in the regimental S-3. 
 
In 2017, Captain Phillips attended the Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, Virginia. Upon completion of EWS, he took command of Weapons Company, 2d Battalion, 1st Marines in Camp Pendleton, California.
 
In February, 2020 Major Phillips assumed duties as Readiness Section Head, Readiness Branch, Operations Division, Plans, Policy, and Operations, Headquarters Marine Corps.
 
In June, 2022 Major Phillips assumed duties as Inspector  - Instructor, Company D, 4th LAR Bn.  
 
Major Phillips' operational assignments include the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit 19.2, Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Peru, Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response Africa 16, Black Sea Rotational Force 13.2, U.S. Embassies Madrid, Spain, Baghdad, Iraq, and U.S. Consulate General Lagos, Nigeria. His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2)
