First Sergeant James N. Gladwell

Company C, 4th Assault Amphibious Battalion

James Gladwell entered recruit training in March 1996 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon completion of recruit training, Private Gladwell completed infantry training at the School of Infantry in Camp Pendleton, California, where he became a Rifleman and was promoted to Private First Class. Private First Class Gladwell then attended and completed Basic Security Guard Course held at Northwest Annex, Chesapeake, Virginia.
 
Private First Class Gladwell received orders to Marine Corps Security Force Company in Naples, Italy where he was assigned to a Guard Platoon. During the civil unrest and rebellion in Albania in May 1997, Private First Class Gladwell arrived in Tirana to guard the American Embassy and American housing compound where he was promoted to Lance Corporal. In November 1997, Lance Corporal Gladwell arrived in Rota, Spain to secure military equipment offloaded from a damaged maritime prepositioning ship.
 
Lance Corporal Gladwell was reassigned to 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in December of 1998. Lance Corporal Gladwell was promoted to Corporal in January 1999 and designated as a scout squad leader. Corporal Gladwell was promoted to Sergeant in February 2000. Sergeant Gladwell separated from active duty in March of 2000.
 
Sergeant Gladwell affiliated with the Selected Marine Corps Reserve in 2008 and was assigned to Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment where he was assigned as section leader in the 81mm mortar platoon. Sergeant Gladwell deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in May 2009 where he served as section leader for a Mobile Assault Platoon. Sergeant Gladwell was promoted to Staff Sergeant in January 2012.
 
Staff Sergeant Gladwell transferred to Anti-tank Training Company, 4th Marine Division in April 2012.  During this tour, Staff Sergeant Gladwell participated in many exercises during this time. Staff Sergeant Gladwell was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in July 2018 and served as acting First Sergeant, Operations Chief and TOW Unit Leader from October 2019 until February 2021.
 
Gunnery Sergeant Gladwell transferred to Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion 23d Marine Regiment in March 2021 where he assumed duties as Operations Chief and Fire Support Chief.  Gunnery Sergeant Gladwell attended the Joint Fires Observer and Fire Support Coordination courses during this time. Gunnery Sergeant Gladwell was frocked to First Sergeant in May 2022 and reported to Company C, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion in June 2022 for duty as Company First Sergeant.
 
First Sergeant Gladwell's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal.
 
First Sergeant Gladwell's Professional Education includes Leading Marines, Corporal's Course, Sergeants Course, Career Course, Advanced Course, Joint Fires Observer Course, Fire Support Coordination Course, Senior Enlisted Joint PME I and II, First Sergeants Course. First Sergeant Gladwell also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems Security along with several technology and cybersecurity certifications. 
 
First Sergeant Gladwell is a cyber defense analyst with Walmart.
