SgtMaj Tate is a native of Derby, KS.  He attended and graduation from Derby High School in June of 1997.  Upon graduating, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and complete recruit training at First Recruit Training Battalion, San Diego, CA in September 1997.  He attended Marine Corps School of Infantry and Weapons Training Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA.  Upon graduating, he was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0352 Tube launched, Optically tracked, Wire guided missile (TOW) Gunner.

In December 1997, SgtMaj Tate reported to Rifle Security Company, Marine Barracks, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  He held such billets as sentry, QRF team commander, patrol leader and CAAT section leader.  

In December 1998, SgtMaj Tate received orders to 2nd Battalion 5th Marine Regiment 1st Marine Division Camp Pendleton, CA.  He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in September 1999 and deployed with Weapons Company under the 31st MEUSOC to Okinawa Japan.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in September of 2000 and temporarily assigned as NCOIC of Weapons Company Armory.  SgtMaj Tate completed his active duty orders in June 2001.

In July of 2001 SgtMaj Tate joined Weapons Co 3d Battalion 25th Mar Reg. 4th Mar Div. in Akron, OH. In Jan 2005 the BN deployed to Al Anbar province, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.   He was assigned as a Mobil Assault Platoon (MAP) patrol leader for Hit/Haditha Dam corridor.  In June of 2005 he was combat meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant.  In 2008 after promotion to Gunnery Sergeant, SgtMaj Tate was ask to assume the responsibilities of Platoon Commander for the heavy machine guns platoon Wpns CO 3/25.  In June 2010 3/25 was activated in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10-02.  SgtMaj Tate was attached to Kilo Co 3/25 who was attached to V3/5 in Sangin, Afghanistan.  SgtMaj Tate held billets as guard force commander and operations chief over seeing combat operation for multiple patrol bases and forward operating bases.

Pending promotion to SgtMaj in Dec 2011, he transfer to Kilo 3/25 as the acting 1stSgt.  After being selected and given orders, SgtMaj Tate reported to H&S Company 3/25 in June of 2012.  In June 2016 SgtMaj Tate received subsequent tour orders back to Kilo 3/25.  In March of 2017 SgtMaj Tate was selected for Sergeant Major and assigned to MACS-24.

SgtMaj Tate’s personal awards consist of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star, Combat Action Ribbon with gold star, Meritorious Volunteer Service Medal, Certificate of Commendation and two Meritorious Masts.
