Sergeant Major Miller entered recruit training in September 1990, and prior to graduating, was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class (PFC).  In March 1991, after attending Marine Combat Training and Infantry Training Battalion, PFC Miller received orders to Marine Corps Security Forces, Naval Weapons Station Concord, CA.  Here he was promoted to Lance Corporal and later meritoriously promoted to Corporal.  In March 1993, Corporal Miller was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st MARDIV, and was later promoted to Sergeant.

From October 1996 to January 2000, Sergeant Miller served as a Drill Instructor student, Drill Instructor, and Senior Drill Instructor, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, and also as an Instructor, Academics Instruction Platoon, MCRD, San Diego, CA.  In July 1998, he was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant.

In January 2000, Staff Sergeant Miller was assigned as an Instructor at the Advanced Infantry Training Company’s Infantry Squad Leaders and Platoon Sergeant Course.  Later, he would transfer to be the Chief Instructor/Designer of the Marine Combat Instructor Course.  In November 2002, Staff Sergeant Miller was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and assigned as Company Gunnery Sergeant.

In January 2003, he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines where he served as Weapons Platoon Sergeant, and later Company Gunnery Sergeant of both Fox and Golf Company.  In 2005, he transferred as an Instructor/Advisor for the Advanced Course at the Staff Noncommissioned Officers Academy at Camp Pendleton.

In February 2006, Gunnery Sergeant Miller was frocked to First Sergeant and assigned the Inspector & Instructor First Sergeant for Landing Support Company Bravo, 4th LSB, 4th MLG in Lathrop, CA.

In June 2009, First Sergeant Miller reported to CLB-7, Twentynine Palms, CA, where he was selected to his current rank.  Frocked to Sergeant Major in January 2011, he was assigned to VMU-1, MACG-38, 3d MAW.  In July of 2012, Sergeant Major Miller transferred to 3d Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st MARDIV.

From June 2014 to February 2017, Sergeant Major Miller was posted as the Sergeant Major of Combat Logistics Regiment 3, Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan.

In March 2017, Sergeant Major Miller was assigned to 4th Marine Division and assumed his current duties as the Division Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Miller’s major accomplishments include: “Outstanding Student” award in Security Force School, Marine and NCO of the Quarter, Drill Instructor of the Quarter and Year, School of Infantry Instructor of the Year for the Commandant’s Combined Award’s Ceremony, the recipient of the “Gung Ho” award at both the Career and the Advanced Course, and an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Studies.  He has deployed to Somalia ISO Operations QUICK DRAW/CEASE FIRE, Operation RED REEF V in Saudi Arabia, JTF-6 on the US/Mexico Border, UDP (SOC) to Okinawa, twice deployed ISO Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, and twice deployed ISO Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Sergeant Major Miller’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V” and four Gold Stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Silver Star, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
