Biography

 

Colonel Charles Von Bergen
Commanding Officer, 14th Marine Regiment

Colonel Von Bergen was commissioned in 1996 and after completion of The Basic School and Field Artillery Basic Officer’s Course he was assigned to 3d Battalion, 11th Marines where he served as Guns Platoon Commander, Forward Observer and Fire Direction Officer.   From August of 1999 until June of 2000 he served as the Fire Support Coordinator for 1st Tank Battalion.

In June of 2000 Colonel Von Bergen reported to Officer Candidates School where he served as Platoon Commander, Executive Officer, Assistant Logistics Officer and Assistant Operations Officer.

In January of 2003 Colonel Von Bergen attended the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course, upon completion he reported to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines.  He commanded Sierra Battery from September 2003 until August 2005 deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He then served as the Battalion Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer.

In May of 2006 Colonel Von Bergen reported to 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company where he served as the 1st Brigade Platoon Commander deploying twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In February of 2009 Colonel Von Bergen attended Command and Staff at the Naval War College, upon completion he reported to United States Special Operations Command where he served in current operations.

From May of 2012 until Feb 2013 Colonel Von Bergen was assigned to I MEF (FWD) as the Fires and Effects Officer in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  

From May 2013 until June 2015 Colonel Von Bergen commanded 3d Battalion, 11th Marines.  In July 2015 he was assigned as a National Security Fellow at the JFK School of Government, Harvard University.  

From July 2016 until June 2018 he was assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps, Program and Resources where he served in the Program Analysis and Evaluation Division, OPNAV 80 and MAGTF Integration Branch.

From June 2018 until June 2020 he was assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force, where he served as the Fires and Effects Coordinator.

On 13 June 2020 he assumed his current duties as Commanding Officer of 14th Marines.
