Colonel Steve White was born in Youngstown, Ohio and attended Miami University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs in 1993. He subsequently was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Upon completion of The Basic School and Infantry Officers Course, Lieutenant White was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines where he served as a Rifle and Weapons Platoon Commander and deployed with the battalion to the Western Pacific as part of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. In June 1996, he was transferred to Marine Security Guard Battalion, Company E located in Frankfurt, Germany, where he served as the Operations Officer. Following attendance of the Amphibious Warfare School in 2000, Captain White was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2d Marines at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina. He served as a Rifle and Weapons Company Commander and deployed to Okinawa, Japan.
Transferred in July 2002, Major White was assigned as the Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 25th Marines Inspector-Instructor. He deployed in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the battalion’s Operation Officer. Upon his return, Major White was transferred to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia where he served as the Operation Officer for Instructor Battalion and as a Company Commander for two student companies. In June 2008 he attended the School of Advanced Warfighting, followed by an assignment as the Inspector-Instructor for 1st Battalion, 24th Marines in Detroit, Michigan. Upon completion of his command in July 2010, Lieutenant Colonel White attended the National War College in Washington, D.C. He was then assigned to the Operations Directorate (J-3) of the Joint Staff for three years. In July 2015 to June 2017, Colonel White served as the G3 Current Operations Officer and the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, G3, III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan.
