Lieutenant Colonel Kara L. Lecker graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant May 1997 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training (NROTC) Program. She also holds a Masters of Business Administration/Masters Accountancy from Northeastern University.
In May 1998, upon completion of The Basic School and the Combat Engineer Officers Course, she reported to 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton, California where she was assigned as a Platoon Commander in Company A. During this tour, she participated in Operation Alaska Road and various other exercises. In May 2000, she transferred to I MEF SOTG, where she served as a Logistics Officer until transferring to the Reserves in May 2001.
In December 2001, then Captain Lecker mobilized and served one year as an Operations Officer for III MHG, Camp Hansen, Okinawa in support of OEF. She joined the SMCR in 2002 where she served with MWSS 472, Willow Grove Naval Air Station (NAS) as the Engineer Officer. From 2003-2008, she served with Bridge Company B, 6th Engineer Support Battalion as the Executive Officer then Commanding Officer where she mobilized and deployed in support of OIF, building and repairing bridges throughout the Iraq AOR. She was promoted to Major in March 2007. From 2008-2013, she served with MAG 49, Willow Grove NAS in Fort Dix, New Jersey where she served as the Logistics Officer and Assistant Operations Officer. In 2013, she transferred to the Individual Mobilization Command, Norfolk, Virginia where she served as the Engineer Officer. She was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel May 2013.
Lieutenant Colonel Lecker is a graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff reserve program. Her personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and several unit /campaign commendations.
