Biography

 

Major Samora A. Leacock
Inspector-Instructor, Kilo Battery, 2nd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment

Major Leacock grew up on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent before moving to the United States to attend college. In 2001, he graduated from the Virginia Military Institute with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Later that year he moved to the United Kingdom where he enlisted in the British Royal Marines and successfully completed the 30-week Commando Course. He was assigned to 45 Commando Group where he saw combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan as well as stability operations in Northern Ireland.

In 2007, he immigrated to the United States and enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves. He served as a CH-46 Flight-line Mechanic with MAG 49 and attained the rank of Corporal. In October 2009, he was accepted into the Officer Candidate Course-Reserve program and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.

Following The Basic School and Field Artillery Officer’s Basic Course, Second Lieutenant Leacock reported to Battery H, 3d Battalion 14th Marines for duty as a Forward Observer. During this time, he deployed to Morocco in support of Exercise African Lion where he served as a Forward Observer and Liaison to the Moroccan Army. In October 2011, First Lieutenant Leacock deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program. He was responsible for Fire Support planning and served as the senior Fires Officer for MAGTF planning during Exercise Cobra Gold 12.

In May 2012, he assumed the billet of Headquarters Platoon Commander and Battery Fire Direction Officer. In 2014, Major Leacock was assigned as Battery H Executive Officer and served in this billet until returning to active duty. In June 2015, he reported to 2d Battalion, 10th Marines where he filled Fire Support Officer Billets at the Battalion and Regimental level.

In 2017, he deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Battalion Landing Team Fire Support Officer. During this time, he served as a liaison to a Combined Joint Task Force where he advised in the planning and execution of Artillery fires in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Upon return from his MEU assignment, Major Leacock served as the Executive Officer, Headquarters Battery, 10th Marine Regiment. In May 2018, he transferred to Battery K, 2d Battalion, 14th Marines, where he assumed his current duties as Inspector-Instructor.

Major Leacock’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star.
