Biography

 

First Sergeant James A. Rogers

First Sergeant James A. Rogers is a native of Stratford, Connecticut.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves in May 2004 and attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island.  He attended the School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, where he received the Military Occupational Specialty of 0311, Infantry Rifleman.

Upon graduation from the School of Infantry, Private First Class Rogers was ordered to Company F, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines in Albany, New York where he served as a Rifleman and Assistant Automatic Rifleman.  In December 2005, Lance Corporal Rogers volunteered to augment Company B, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine and deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM from March 2006 to October 2006. Following this deployment, Lance Corporal Rogers submitted a package to transfer to active duty.

In June 2007, Lance Corporal Rogers was ordered to Company E, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  In July 2007, Lance Corporal Rogers was accepted into the Battalion’s Scout Sniper Platoon and held the billets of Pointman and Assistant Team Leader.  Corporal Rogers successfully graduated from the Scout Sniper Basic Course in 2008.  Corporal Rogers became a Scout Sniper Team Leader and deployed to Ramadi, Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM from September 2008 to April 2009.  Following this deployment, Sergeant Rogers graduated from the Scout Sniper Team Leader Course and became Chief Scout Sniper at 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines.  Sergeant Rogers then deployed with 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines from August 2010 to February 2011 in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, where the Battalion fought in Marjah and Sangin, Afghanistan.

In April 2011, Sergeant Rogers attended the Basic Reconnaissance Course at Camp Pendleton, California.  Upon graduation, Sergeant Rogers checked into Force Reconnaissance Company, II MEF, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  While at Force Reconnaissance Company, Sergeant Rogers attended the Joint Fires Observer Course, the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape Course, the Tactical Air Control Party Course, the Mountain Scout Sniper Course, and the Basic Airborne Course.  Sergeant Rogers then deployed with Force Reconnaissance Company, II MEF on the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and was selected for the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In 2014, Staff Sergeant Rogers transferred back to the Selected Marine Corps Reserves, and checked into Company C, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, in San Antonio, Texas, where he held the billet of Platoon Sergeant.  In March 2019, Staff Sergeant Rogers received orders to H&S Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines, in Houston, Texas, where he served as the Scout Sniper Platoon Sergeant.  In April 2020, Staff Sergeant Rogers received orders to the Readiness Support Program in Oklahoma City, where he served as Operations Chief, and was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in July 2020.  

In February 2022, Gunnery Sergeant Rogers received orders to Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines, where he served as the Operations Chief.  In 2022, Gunnery Sergeant Rogers attended the Fire Support Coordination Course and the Watch Officer/Watch Chief Course. Gunnery Sergeant Rogers was promoted to First Sergeant in March 2023, and received orders to Company G, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, where he is currently the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader.  His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, 2 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals with “V” device, and 2 Combat Action Ribbons.
