Inspector-Instructor, 3rd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company Lieutenant Colonel Aaron Doty

Lieutenant Colonel Aaron Doty is a native of Lawton, Oklahoma and enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves in 1993.  Following initial recruit and MOS training, he was assigned to Headquarters Company, 24th Marine Regiment, Kansas City, Kansas.  In 1994, he received a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship and was commissioned in December 1998 from the University of Missouri.

After completing The Basic School and Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, he was assigned to 5th Battalion 11th Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, California where he served as a Forward Observer, Platoon Commander, Fire Direction Officer, and Assistant Battalion Liaison Officer.  In 2001, as part of Battalion Landing Team 1/4, he deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation ANACONDA and ENDURING FREEDOM.  Following this tour, he was promoted to Captain and then served as a Gunnery Instructor at the US Army Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  Following this tour, he attended the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School. 

In 2006, Capt Doty reported to 3rd Battalion 10th Marine Regiment.  In this assignment, he served as the Operations Officer and Assistant Fire Support Coordinator with Regimental Combat Team-6 in support of operation IRAQI FREEDOM in Fallujah, Iraq.  Returning from this deployment in 2007, he assumed command of Kilo Battery, 3d Battalion 10th Marines and deployed again in 2008 to Al Anbar Province, Iraq as part of Task Force Military Police.  Returning to 3rd Battalion 10th Marines, Maj Doty served as the Battalion Logistics Officer, and then was assigned as the Fire Support Officer for the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit where he deployed in 2010 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. 

In 2010, Maj Doty served as a joint fires and operations planner for Joint Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  As a Fire Support Officer and Joint Terminal Attack Controller he was responsible for coordinating the operational requirements in support of operations and training abroad.  Following this assignment, Maj Doty attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Quantico VA and received a Master’s Degree in Military Studies.

In 2015, Maj Doty was assigned as the Assistant Fire Support Coordinator (AFSC) for 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune NC and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

LtCol Doty is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School, Command and Staff College, and the Joint Forces Staff College, completing the requirements as a Joint Qualified Officer.

LtCol Doty’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
