On November 11, 1998, Lawrence L. Chapman, Jr. enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego, CA from July 1999 to October 1999.

In October 1999, PFC Chapman attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, CA.  From December 1999 to May 2000, he attended Aviation Electrician School in Pensacola, FL where he was promoted to Lance Corporal.  From May to August 2000, LCpl Chapman attended F/A-18 Electrical Systems School in Lemoore, CA.

In August 2000, LCpl Chapman reported to VMFA-323 aboard MCAS Miramar, CA where he served as an F/A-18 Electrical Systems Technician and deployed aboard the USS Constellation which was tasked to conduct missions in the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch from April until September of 2001.  In September 2001, while still underway, LCpl Chapman was meritoriously promoted to Corporal.

In January 2002, Cpl Chapman executed orders to VFA-125 in Lemoore, CA.  While there, he served as a Shift Supervisor for the Electrician Work Center.  In July 2003, Cpl Chapman was promoted to Sergeant and reenlisted for orders to the east coast.

From June 2004 to December 2009, Sgt Chapman was assigned to VMFA (AW)-224 in MCAS Beaufort, SC.  During his tour, Sgt Chapman served as Electrician Work Center Supervisor and Maintenance Controller. He was deployed to Al Asad, Iraq to support Operation Iraqi Freedom from January to September 2005 and twice to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program from January to September 2007 and again from January to August of 2009.  In between deployments, Sgt Chapman was promoted to Staff Sergeant in November 2008.

In January 2010, SSgt Chapman was ordered to Center of Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA to serve as an Instructor at the F/A-18 Electrical Systems School and while there was frocked to Gunnery Sergeant to serve as the Student Controller and Marine Liaison in September 2012.

GySgt Chapman was then selected to join the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, Blue Angels, and reported aboard NAS Pensacola, FL in November 2013.  He served as the Senior Enlisted Marine and simultaneously held billets of Avionics Division Chief, Maintenance Controller and Quality Assurance Supervisor.  He was selected to First Sergeant in December 2015 and executed orders to Intel Support Battalion, New Orleans, LA in June 2016.

1stSgt Chapman’s personal awards include 1 Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, 3 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, 5 Good Conduct Medals, 1 Meritorious Mast, 3 Certificates of Commendation, and 4 Letters of Appreciation.
