Sergeant Major Nicholas A. Wheeler
Command Senior Enlisted Leader
1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment

Sergeant Major Nicholas A. Wheeler is a native of Virginia and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2003. He graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in February of 2004.

In March 2004, he reported to Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry East at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC, for Marine Combat Training. In April, he attended his primary Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training at Twenty-Nine Palms, California, where he received the MOS of 2844 Ground Communications Organizational Repairer.

Upon completion of MOS School, he received orders in September 2004 to 1st Battalion 8th Marines, Communications Company, aboard Camp Lejeune, NC. While assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines Lance Corporal Wheeler deployed for 11 months to Fallujah, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In April 2006, he reported to Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC. While there, he served as a systems repairer and was deployed a second time to Fallujah, Iraq.

In December 2008, Sergeant Wheeler left active service.

In February 2009, Sergeant Wheeler joined the Marine Corps Reserve and was stationed with MACS-24, MACG-48, 4TH MAW in Virginia Beach, VA. He served as a platoon sergeant for the Operations Department.

In May 2009, Sergeant Wheeler retrained in a new MOS of 7844 (Aviation Operations).

In April of 2010, Sergeant Wheeler began his full-time civilian career for the United States Navy in the N6 Department as the Command NMCI Liaison on Naval Station Norfolk with Carrier Strike Group Four. He left this career in May of 2022.

In February of 2013, Staff Sergeant Wheeler checked into HMM-774 (now redesignated as VMM-774) as the Aviation Operations Chief. While assigned to HMM-774, Gunnery Sergeant Wheeler also served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.

In August of 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Wheeler reported to Headquarters Marine Forces Command in Norfolk, VA, to stand duty as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee Senior Watch Officer in the G3/5/7 department.

In May of 2019, First Sergeant Wheeler checked into Food Service Company, Combat Logistics Regiment-45 in Symrna, Georgia, as the Company First Sergeant.

In March of 2021, First Sergeant Wheeler mobilized with Task Force Commitment Roto-2 to Jacksonville, Florida, and served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor.

In June of 2022, First Sergeant Wheeler checked into H&S Company 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, in Detroit, Michigan, as the Company First Sergeant.

In May of 2023, Sergeant Major Wheeler checked in as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, in Detroit, Michigan.

In June of 2023, Sergeant Major Wheeler purchased a gym in Fredericksburg, Virginia, to be the full-time owner and operator of a small independent microgym.

His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other service and campaign awards.
