MARADMIN releases more information on Blended Retirement System

20 Jul 2017 | Lance Cpl. Niles Lee U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve

Marine Administrative Message 353/17 announces the release of Marine Corps Bulletin 1800, which focuses on the Blended Retirement System policy.

The BRS is scheduled to go into effect Jan. 1, 2018, and offers a more modern and flexible retirement system.

Marines must have fewer than 12 years of service or fewer than 4,320 retirement points, for Reserve Marines, by Dec. 31, 2017, in order to be eligible to opt-in.

All individuals joining the Marine Corps after Jan. 1, 2018 will be automatically enrolled in the BRS.

The Department of Defense has created a BRS calculator, which helps service members to understand and plan their savings and retirement.

To help Marines understand the options available to them, Manpower and Reserve Affairs have created written guidance on the specifics of using the BRS calculator. The guidelines can be found at https://www.manpower.usmc.mil/BRS.
