Marine administrative message 498/14 authorizes the transition and conversion retraining for Marine naval aviators and naval flight officers for Selected Marine Corps Reserve units within the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing.  This program is intended for SMCR Marines who are subject to transition or conversion training due to the implementation of alternate aircraft platforms or resignations.

To be eligible, Marines must be in the process of joining or be a current member of an SMCR unit at the squadron level or below. The Marine must also be a lance corporal through staff sergeant, a captain or a major.

Any Marine who has unexcused absence, failed a physical fitness test or combat fitness test within the last 12 months,  is currently assigned to the body composition program or Marine Corps appearance program, or has received reduction in grade to their current grade is not eligible for the program. A Marine must not be a previous recipient of retraining funding within the past three years.

All Marines must have the required contractual obligation within 30 days of the retraining request approval. For schools that are five weeks or less, there is a one-year contract obligation, and for schools six-to-12 weeks long there is a two-year contract obligation. For schools more than 12 weeks long, there is a contractual obligation of three years.

Nomination requests must be submitted by unit commanders to the 4th MAW G-3 training section via email.

All requests will be considered based on the needs of the Marine Corps. Due to limited funds, all requests will be decided on a first come, first serve basis.

For more information on request submission and enrollment see the MARADMIN.
