First Sergeant Chayna M. La Rose is a native of Hayward, California. She enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October 2008 and attended recruit training with 4th Recruit Training Battalion at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation, she reported to Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, North Carolina, before attending the Munitions and Electronics Maintenance School at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama, where she earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 2311, Ammunition Technician. In March 2009, she was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class.
In April 2009, Private First Class La Rose reported to Ammunition Company, 2d Supply Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where she served as an Issues Technician. She was promoted to Lance Corporal in November 2009 and assigned as a Records Clerk. From March 2010 to September 2011, she deployed with 2d Maintenance Battalion (Reinforced) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving as the Records Chief. She was promoted to Corporal in April 2011 and, in May 2012, graduated from the Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor Course as a First Degree Black Belt Instructor.
In January 2013, Corporal La Rose deployed with 2d Marine Logistics Group (Forward) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, again serving as the Records Chief. She was promoted to Sergeant in April 2013 and, upon returning from deployment in June 2013, assumed duties as the Operations Platoon Sergeant.
In January 2015, Sergeant La Rose reported to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan, where she served as the Ammunition Chief and Commanding General's Readiness Inspector. In November 2015, she attended the Marine Corps Martial Arts Center of Excellence Martial Arts Instructor Trainer Course in Quantico, Virginia, graduating as a Second Degree Black Belt Instructor Trainer. She received the Dunham/Wetherbee "Heart" Award and earned certification as a Combat Conditioning Specialist.
In January 2016, Sergeant La Rose attended Drill Instructor School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. Upon graduation, she was assigned to Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, where she successfully completed six recruit training cycles, serving as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor. She was promoted to Staff Sergeant in April 2017. In July 2019, Staff Sergeant La Rose reported to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, as the Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the Ammunition Supply Point.
In January 2020, Staff Sergeant La Rose reported to the G-4, Marine Information Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where she served as the Ammunition Chief. She was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in March 2021. In October 2022, Gunnery Sergeant La Rose reported to 2d Supply Battalion, serving as the Records Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge and Operations Platoon Sergeant.
In March 2023, Gunnery Sergeant La Rose reported to the University of Kansas, where she served as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor and Senior Enlisted Advisor.
In May 2026, she was promoted to First Sergeant and assumed her current duties as the Inspector-Instructor Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Anti-Tank Training Company, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division.
First Sergeant La Rose's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars in lieu of a third award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of a third award, the Good Conduct Medal in lieu of a fifth award, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
