Sergeant Major Franks enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 2007 and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego, California (CA). Following graduation Private First Class Franks was assigned to School of Infantry East for Marine Combat Training (MCT). In November 2007, Private First Class Franks was assigned to the Field Radio Operator Course for MOS training. Upon graduating first in his class he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal in January 2008.
In January 2008, Lance Corporal Franks was assigned to 3rd Battalion 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division Camp Pendleton, CA where he served in Communications Platoon, H&S Company as a Radio Operator. Lance Corporal Franks deployed with H&S Company to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and to Okinawa in support of the 31st Marine expeditionary Unit. While deployed, Lance Corporal Franks was promoted to Corporal and Sergeant.
In March 2011, Sergeant Franks reported to Basic Communications Officer Course aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico to serve as a Transmissions Instructor for the course.
In March 2013, Sergeant Franks transitioned to his first special duty assignment of recruiting at Recruiting Station Richmond, Recruiting Substation Petersburg, where he served as a canvassing recruiter. While on recruiting duty, Sergeant Franks was promoted to Staff Sergeant in November 2015.
In May 2016, Staff Sergeant Franks was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as the Radio Chief for Fox battery. Staff Sergeant Franks deployed to Syria in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
In December 2017, Staff Sergeant Franks reported to 8th Communications Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While there Staff Sergeant Franks participated in Exercise Trident Juncture in Norway. In November 2019, Staff Sergeant Franks was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.
In May 2020, Gunnery Sergeant Franks reported to Recruiting Station Richmond in Richmond, Virginia to serve as Staff noncommissioned officer in charge for Recruiting substation Charlottesville and Richmond South. While on recruiting duty he was named Staff noncommissioned officer in charge of the year for FY 21 and FY 22.
In June 2022, Gunnery Sergeant Franks reported to The Basic School where he served as the Communications Chief and Assistant Security Manager for The Basic School. In May 2023, Gunnery Sergeant Franks was promoted to First Sergeant. First Sergeant Franks reported to Headquarters Battalion, Training and Education Command and served as the Company First Sergeant for Combat Development and Systems Company.
Sergeant Major Franks is now currently serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader for 4th Combat Engineer Battalion in Baltimore Maryland.
Sergeant Major Franks graduated with honors from American Military University with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management.
Sergeant Major Franks personal decorations include a Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals with one combat "C" device, five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
