Captain Chadd S. Montgomery
Commanding Officer
Hotel Battery, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marines

Chadd S. Montgomery is the Battery Commander of Hotel Battery, 3d Battalion 14th Marines in Richmond, Virginia. He is a native of Sun Valley, Idaho.  He received his B.A. in History from the University of Puget Sound in 2006, his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 2011, and his M.A. in Modern American History from the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in 2011.  Captain Montgomery resides in Alexandria, Virginia and serves as a National Security Advisor to a United States Senator.
 
Captain Montgomery commissioned in the United States Marine Corps in 2014 after completing Office Candidate School in March 2014.  He subsequently graduated from The Basic School in September 2014, the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in April 2015, and the Joint Fires Observer Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in May 2015. Upon completion of training in May 2015, he reported to Golf Battery, 3d Battalion, 14th Marines at Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he served as a Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer, Guns Platoon Commander, and Fire Support Officer. 
 
In July 2018 Captain Montgomery reported to Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia. Recognized as a Distinguished Graduate in May 2019, he subsequently reported to 3d Battalion, 14th Marines in Bristol, Pennsylvania in June 2019, to serve as the Assistant Naval Gunfire Liaison Officer. In July 2019 he volunteered for a deployment to Helmand Province, Afghanistan with Task Force Southwest 20.1. In October 2019, he reported to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and Fort Story, Virginia to complete the Marine Advisor Course and begin a four-month pre-deployment workup. 
 
Captain Montgomery deployed to Helmand Province in February 2020 as the air/fires/IO/PAO advisor to the Afghan National Army 215th Corps. During his nine-month deployment, he also served as a Joint Operations Center watch officer, a member of the Commander's Action Group, the writer/editor of the daily situation report submitted to the Commander, Operation Resolute Support, in Kabul, and oversaw US contractor maintenance on Afghan Air Force UH-60s. He demobilized in December 2020 and rejoined 3d Battalion, 14th Marines as a Fire Support Coordination Center Watch Officer. In March 2021, he assumed the billet of Battalion Liaison Officer/Assistant Fire Support Coordinator, which he held until his appointment to battery command in September 2022.
 
Captain Montgomery's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Combat 'C' Device) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.  He has also been recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School in May 2019 and received The Basic School Writing Award in September 2014. His articles have appeared in the Marine Corps Gazette and the Naval Institute Proceedings magazine.
