Biography

 

Lieutenant Colonel Eric A. Scherrer
Commanding Officer, Marine Fighter Training Squadron 401

LtCol Scherrer was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the United States Marine Corps in May of 2004 and was subsequently assigned to Delta Company at The Basic School in Quantico, Va.  

Upon graduation from The Basic School, LtCol Scherrer was assigned to undergraduate flight training at NAS Pensacola, FL. and Vance AFB in Enid, OK.  Upon completion of undergraduate flight training, LtCol Scherrer was assigned to advanced jet flight training at NAS Kingsville, TX where he earned his Wings of Gold in December of 2006.  LtCol Scherrer was subsequently assigned to the Hawks of VMAT-203 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.  

Upon completion of training at VMAT-203 in February 2008, LtCol Scherrer was assigned to VMA-231 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC from February 2008 through June 2012. While at VMA-231, LtCol Scherrer served as the Powerline OIC, Ordnance OIC, Logistics and Communication Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer.  During this tour LtCol Scherrer deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 09.10 and in support of contingency operations with the 22nd MEU.  

From June 2012 through June of 2013 LtCol Scherrer was assigned to the Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA.  Upon completion of the Expeditionary Warfare School, LtCol Scherrer was assigned back to VMA-231 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.  

From June 2013 through October 2015 LtCol Scherrer served as VMA-231’s Quality Assurance Officer, Pilot Training Officer, Department of Safety and Standardization Department Head and Operations Officer.  During this period he deployed in support of the 31st MEU.  

In October of 2015, LtCol Scherrer was assigned to MATSS Cherry Point, NC where he served as the Operations Officer and MAG FLSE until June 2016.  

In June of 2016 LtCol Scherrer was assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps Manpower Management and Officer Assignments where he served as the Fixed Wing Major’s Monitor until June of 2018.  

LtCol Scherrer was assigned to MAWTS-1 in July of 2018.  While at MAWTS-1 he served as an AV-8B Instructor Pilot and the Academics Department Head.
