Lieutenant Colonel Brandon D. Kelly

Lieutenant Colonel Kelly is a native of Roanoke, Virginia and was commissioned following his graduation from the Virginia Military Institute in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Lieutenant Colonel Kelly completed a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Leadership from New England College in 2018.

As a Company Grade Officer Lieutenant Colonel Kelly was designated a Naval Aviator and a Weapons Tactics Instructor.  He served in multiple billets with both HMLA-467 and HMLA-269.  As an AH-1W pilot, Lieutenant Colonel Kelly deployed to the CENTCOM AOR with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2013 and the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2015. Following his second deployment he joined VMX-1 as an Operational Test Director (OTD).  His programs of responsibility for test and evaluation included the Joint Service Aircrew Mask (JSAM), M282 Warhead, Full Motion Video and a number of other smaller projects.  While attached to VMX-1, he transitioned to the AH-1Z and maintained currency in both the AH-1W and the AH-1Z.

As a Field Grade Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Kelly served as the VMX-1, AH-1 Department Head.  Following his tour at VMX-1, Lieutenant Colonel Kelly was designated a Joint Terminal Attack Controller, served as the 3d Marine Raider Battalion Air Officer and deployed to Iraq as the Air/Fires Officer for Special Operations Task Force – North in 2019. After redeploying Lieutenant Colonel Kelly served as the Executive Officer of HMLA-269 and as Aide-de-Camp for the Commanding General of II MEF.  Most recently he served as the Executive Officer of The Basic School.

Lieutenant Colonel Kelly’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit and campaign awards.
