Captain Martin F. Wetterauer IV
Company Commander
Co. F, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion

Major Wetterauer is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Louisiana State University and a Masters of Business Administration from Georgetown University. He was commissioned in March 2012 and has attended The Basic School. In 2013 he graduated from Armored Officer Basic Course and Basic Airborne Course.
Second Lieutenant Wetterauer reported to 1st Tank Battalion in Twentynine Palms, CA in the summer of 2013. After his arrival, he was appointed as Platoon Commander, 1st Platoon, Company D. As a platoon commander, Lieutenant Wetterauer supported the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines Marine Corps Combat Readiness Exercise and Expeditionary Warfare School 2013 Fire Support Exercise as the independent platoon. In April 2014, First Lieutenant Wetterauer became the Executive Officer of Company A. As a company Executive Officer he served as the Fire Support Team leader for the company. He performed these duties during an Integrated Training Exercise in 2014. First Lieutenant Wetterauer served as the armor liaison officer to the commander of 41 Commando during exercise Black Alligator 2015, a joint training exercise with the British Royal Marines. In October 2015, First Lieutenant Wetterauer was the honor graduate from the Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival Course.

In the fall of 2015, First Lieutenant Wetterauer was selected on the Commandant’s Career Level Education Board to attend resident professional military education. In the summer of 2016, he began his studies at Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, VA. While attending EWS, Captain Wetterauer won the “James Mattis Award for Professional Writing,” for which his article “Keep Tanks on the MEU” was published in the May 2017 issue of the US Naval Institute’s Proceedings magazine.
 
Upon graduation in May 2017, Captain Wetterauer spent the summer as a Platoon Commander at Officer Candidate School (OCS). As a summer augment, Captain Wetterauer helped train and select the most qualified candidates for commissions as United States Marine Corps officers.

In September 2017, Captain Wetterauer arrived at Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Kings Bay, GA. He then attended Close Quarters Battle School in Chesapeake, VA and Methods of Entry Course in Quantico, VA and was appointed as the Platoon Commander for the Recapture Tactics Platoon. Captain Wetterauer trained and supervised his Marines conducting continuous nuclear weapons security, ensuring they could conduct the mission essential task of recapture operations if called upon. In 2019, Captain Wetterauer received the Marine Corps Association Leadership Award. This award is a peer selected award that is granted by the Marine Corps Association on behalf of the Commander, Marine Forces Command.

On 1 July, 2020, Captain Wetterauer ended his active service and joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves. On 2 July, 2020 he checked into Company A, 4th Tank Battalion to serve as the company executive officer. In this role he aided in the divestment of all company assists during the decommissioning of 4th Tank Battalion. Captain Wetterauer checked into 4th Civil Affairs Group in December 2022. He then attended the Marine Corps Civil Military Operations School in Quantico, VA and served as Assistant Team Leader, Team 3, Detachment 1. Major Wetterauer served as the Civil Military Operations Planner to 25th Marine Corps Regiment during Operation UNITATS 2022 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 

Major Wetterauer took command of Company F, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in October 2022. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. He is not married.
