Biography

 

Major Johnathan Brown
Company Commander
Truck Company, 25th Marine Regiment

A native of Newport News, Virginia, Major Johnathan Brown enlisted in Corps’ Delayed Entry Program in March 2001. In January 2002, he attended recruit training at Marine Corps Depot, Parris Island. Upon graduating in April 2002, he completed Marine Combat Training and the Amphibious Assault Vehicle Operator Course before joining Alpha Company, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion. While at Alpha Company, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, 2005, and 2008 while achieving the rank of sergeant. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in May 2009, he attended Officer Candidates Course 205 and commissioned as a second lieutenant in December 2010. 

Second Lieutenant Brown graduated from The Basic School and Logistics Officer Course in 2011, and deployed as a Logistics Advisor for 2d Battalion, 5th Marines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2012. Upon his return in 2013, First Lieutenant Brown served as a Company Executive Officer, Headquarters and Service Company, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion. First Lieutenant Brown also served as the Battalion Logistics Officer, where he provided logistical support for 1,000 personnel at four disparate locations. Following his promotion in January 2015, Captain Brown deployed to Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia with the Georgia Deployment Program, Resolute Support Mission Rotation Three as the Logistics Officer and Advisor. During the deployment, he expertly leveraged host nation, Marine Corps, and other agencies to support 700 US and Georgian personnel throughout the six-month pre-deployment training program.

Captain Brown resumed Battalion Logistics Officer duties with 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion in 2016 until he assumed duties as the Battalion Assistant Operations Officer, Combat Logistics Battalion 451 in 2017. In this role, he supported training requirements for 1,600 personnel spread across nine states and 12 sites. This included facilitating battalion operations to provide logistical support for 19,000 US and partner forces during the combined/joint multinational exercise, Cold Response 20 as the Lead Exercise Planner. Promoted in January 2021, Major Brown served as a Conditions-Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) Action Officer, Headquarters, Marine Corps at the Pentagon where he managed a two-million-dollar budget to implement strategic level CBM+ initiatives. Major Brown rejoined the Reserve Component in 2022 and he served as the Future Operations Officer, Combat Logistics Regiment 45. In this role, he created and published the Regiment's Tactical SOP to standardize the unit's best practices for the Commander and his subordinate leaders. Major Brown assumed command of Truck Company, 25th Marine Regiment in April 2023.

Major Brown’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with four gold stars), and the Combat Action Ribbon. He is a Blended Seminar Program graduate of both the Expeditionary Warfare School and Command and Staff College. Major Brown is currently an MBA Student at the University of Michigan, Stephen M. Ross School of Business.
