Biography

 

First Sergeant Murray C. McNichol
Inspector-Instructor Unit Senior Enlisted Leader

First Sergeant (1stSgt) McNichol enlisted in the Marine Corps in November of 2001 and subsequently attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego.  Following recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training in Camp Pendleton, California and MOS school in Pensacola, Florida.  1stSgt McNichol served with MALS-24 on Marine Corps Base Hawaii from August of 2002 to November of 2006.  He then transferred to Fort Worth, Texas and was attached to VMGR-234, MAG-41 until December of 2009.  Following that, 1stSgt McNichol transferred to Camp Pendleton, California and was attached to HMM-268, MAG-39 until April of 2013.  He then went on to serve with Marine Corps Security Forces in Virginia until April of 2016.  After his tour with Security Forces, 1stSgt McNichol transferred back to Marine Corps Base Hawaii where he served as the Squadron Gunnery Sergeant for MALS-24 until May of 2019.  Since then, 1stSgt McNichol has been serving as the Company 1stSgt, Company B, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.

1stSgt McNichol deployed to Iraq in 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as Afghanistan in 2016 and 2017 in support of Operation Resolute Support and a few other locations over the years in support of Marine Expeditionary Units (MEU’s) and UDP’s.  Some of 1stSgt McNichol’s personal decorations include the Joint Commendation Medal with Combat “C” Device, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star in lieu of third award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star in lieu of third award.

1stSgt McNichol has held numerous billets and qualifications including Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative, Ordnance Quality Assurance Safety Observer, Marine Corps Martial Arts Program Instructor, Aerial Gunner, Physical Security and Tactics Instructor, Non-Lethal Weapons Instructor and HRST Master to name a few.
