Colonel David S. Morrison
Group Commanding Officer, Colonel Morrison Third Civil Affairs Group

  

Colonel Morrison was raised in the small town of Monroe, NC. After graduation from Wingate University, Col Morrison entered the Marine Corps at Parris Island on May 9, 1996. Upon completion of Recruit Training and follow-on MOS training, Private First Class Morrison was assigned to 3rdBattalion, 8th Marines as an 0351 Assaultman. LCpl Morrison deployed with his unit to Okinawa as the 31st MEU.

While deployed, he applied for and was accepted to Officer Candidate School. Following graduation from Officer Candidates School,The Basic School, Infantry Officers Course, and Light Armored Vehicle Commanders’ Course, 2ndLt Morrison was assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion as an 0302/0303 Light Armored Vehicle Platoon Commander. After affiliating with his local Reserve unit, 4th Supply Battalion, Capt Morrison, was asked to join the newly formed Mortuary Affairs unit and deployed as the Executive Officer/Platoon Commander in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March, 2003. In 2007 and while in the IRR, Capt Morrison was selected from the below zone for promotion to Major and was assigned to become the first Commanding Officer for the newly formed Personnel Retrieval and Processing Unit. In 2011 Maj Morrison mobilized to Marine Corps Systems Command as the Project Officer.

After leaving MCSC Maj Morrison joined 4th Civil Affairs Group where he gained the additional MOS of 0530. He served as a Team Leader prior to accepting mobilization orders to II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) as the Nimroz Provincial Director in charge of all aspects of the Command’s relationship, governance, and development initiatives with the Provincial Governor and Staff of Nimroz. Upon return from Afghanistan in November of 2013, Maj Morrison was assigned as the G-9 Operations Officer for 2nd CAG and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

LtCol Morrison led the G-9 through the newly created G-9 Beta Course designed by MCCMOS and he served as the AC/S G-9 for IIMEF during its 2016 MEFEX. In August of 2016, LtCol Morrison was assigned to 3d CAG as the Executive Officer. He served as the AC/S G-9 for III MEF during its 2019 MEFEX in Okinawa, Japan. In July of 2019, LtCol Morrison transferred to the newly formed Marne Corps Advisor Company – A. In December, 2000, LtCol Morrison was selected for promotion to the rank of Colonel and was promoted in December of 2001.

Col Morrison’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Navy Commendation Medal (2nd Award), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Colonel Morrison, his three children Emily, 15, Audrey, 13, and William, 10 reside in Charlotte, NC where he works as the Division Manager for the construction company, ND Site Services  .
