Sergeant Major, 4th Air Naval Gunfire Liason Company Sergeant Major Jeffrey S. Roosa

Sergeant Major Roosa completed recruit training earning a Meritorious Promotion at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., in October 1988.  He subsequently reported to Courthouse Bay, Camp LeJuene, North Carolina for MOS training.  Upon completion of MOS training, he reported to H&S Company, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion as an MOS 1141, Basic Electrician.


In May 1989, Lance Corporal Roosa transferred to Company C, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion where he completed a lateral move to the MOS 1371, Combat Engineer.  During the summer of 1990 he returned to Courthouse Bay, Camp LeJuene, North Carolina and completed the Basic Combat Engineer course.


In January 1991, Lance Corporal Roosa was mobilized in support of Operation Desert Storm with Company C, 4th CEB, based out of Camp LeJuene, North Carolina.  He participated in training exercises until the unit demobilized in April, 1991 returning to Lynchburg, Virginia where he remained with Company C.  In 1998, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and attended the Career Course at Camp Crowder, Missouri.  During his time with Company C, 4th CEB, he served in various billets to include Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Guide, Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, and Company Gunnery Sergeant.  He participated in Combined Arms Exercises, Amphibious Operations Training, Cold Weather Training, and deployments to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Romania.


During 2004, Staff Sergeant Roosa transferred to H&S Company, 4th CEB, and served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.  In 2004, he mobilized with Company C in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom leading a platoon attached to 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines during the deployment.  While at Camp Pendleton and prior to deploying to Iraq, he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in August, 2004    


In April 2005, Gunnery Sergeant Roosa demobilized from Company C and returned to H&S Company, 4th CEB.  He subsequently transferred to the IMA Detachment, III MEF, Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan as the MEF Engineer Chief.  He deployed to South Korea in support of III MEF Operations specifically RSOI & UFL. 


In 2008, he was selected to First Sergeant and reported to H&S Company, 4th Supply Battalion.  He served independently as the principal senior enlisted advisor in all administrative, technical, & tactical requirements for the Company Commander in addition to ensuring Marines were prepared for deployments in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.  


Upon his selection to Sergeant Major in May, 2012, he received orders as the Sergeant Major for 4th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, 4th Marine Forces Reserve, West Palm Beach, Florida.  During March of 2013, Sergeant Major Roosa completed the U.S. Army Airborne School earning his Basic Parachutist Wings.      


Sergeant Major Roosa holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration from Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia. 


His personal awards include two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, one with a Combat Distinguishing Device, the Navy Achievement Medal, two Certificates of Commendation, two Letters of Appreciation, and the Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal (6th award).
