Commanding Officer, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Sean Zukowsky

Lieutenant Colonel Zukowsky attended Platoon  Leaders Class, graduated from Old Dominion University and received his commission on St Patrick’s day, 1996.  After completing The Basic School, Lt Zukowsky became a logistics officer and took his first duty station in Okinawa, Japan with 3rd Marine Division as a Headquarters Battalion S-4A and then H&S Company Executive Officer for the division Headquarters Battalion.  Lieutenant Zukowsky took orders to 2nd Force Service Support Group at Camp Lejeune where he was promoted to Captain and served as the H&S Company Commander for 2nd Medical Battalion while also completing a double CAX as the Combat Service Support Detachment Operations Officer.

Capt Zukowsky also served as Battalion Operations Officer for 2nd Landing Support Battalion, then became the Company Commander of Bravo Company of the newly formed 2nd Transportation support Battalion. Capt Zukowsky was selected to be the first Transportation Support Detachment Commander with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit during a Mediterranean deployment.   Upon the return of the MEU, Captain Zukowsky took orders to the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command where he served as a Recovery Team Leader taking recovery teams into Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Germany, Palau, France, South and even North Korea in search of missing service members from our Nation’s wars and conflicts.  Despite his greatest efforts to stay a team leader, Capt Zukowsky was selected to serve as the Executive Assistant to the Commanding General of that unit..

Captain Zukowsky exited the active duty ranks and joined the 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion, completed the Assault Amphibian Officers course and was assigned as H&S Company Commander in Tampa, FL.  Promoted to Major.  In 2008 he took command of Company B (Jacksonville FL)  for an Operation Iraqi Freedom deployment as a provisional rifle company with 1/8.

Upon return, Major Zukowsky finished out his tour as Company Commander, then went to battalion to serve as the S-4 while attending Command & Staff Seminar.  Major Zukowsky volunteered for a security cooperation mission, and deployed to Jordan and Afghanistan to train two Jordanian infantry battalions for combat deployments.  Upon return from this deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Zukowsky transferred to 4th Marine Division where he has served as a Plans Officer for the G-3/5.

His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 3 gold stars.
