Sergeant Major John B. Noel, a native of Soufriere, Saint Lucia, West Indies entered the Marine Corps in October 1994 and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Parris Island, South Carolina. After completing Marine Combat Training and the Combat Engineer Basic Course, he was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of 1371; Combat Engineer.
In August 1995, Private Noel was ordered to the Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 172, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa where he served as a Combat Engineer.
In March 1999, Sergeant Noel received orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion at Okinawa, Japan. Upon completion of orders, he was assigned to Company C, 1st Combat Engineer Battalion where he served as a Squad leader and Platoon Guide.
In June 2003, Staff Sergeant Noel received orders to Drill Instructor School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to Company H, 2d Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor.
In October 2006, Staff Sergeant Noel was transferred to Bravo Company, 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, and 1st Marine Division for duties as the Platoon Sergeant. From March 2007 to March 2009 he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Inherent Resolve with 2d Battalion, 5th Marines and 3d Battalion, 7th Marines for duties as the Engineer Platoon Sergeant.
In October 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Noel received orders to Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center where he served as the Engineer Facilities Staff Non-Commissioned Officer.
In June 2010, First Sergeant Noel received orders to Anti-Terrorism Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Reno, Nevada where he served until the Battalion’s deactivation in July of 2013. Immediately following Anti-Terrorism Battalion’s deactivation, he received orders to 1st Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division. First Sergeant Noel would assume the duties as the Company First Sergeant for Company B from August 2013 to February 2015.
In February 2015, First Sergeant Noel was transferred to Headquarters Battery, 11th Marines Regiment, 1st Marine Division. From February 2015 to February 2017 he serve as the Battery First Sergeant. In February 2017, First Sergeant Noel was transferred to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines.
In June 2020, Sergeant Major Noel was transferred to Marine Forces Reserve, New Orleans, LA and assumed his current position as the Sergeant Major of Headquarters Battalion / MARCORSPTFAC.
Sergeant Major Noel’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2d award), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4th award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2d award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
