Sergeant Major, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 112 Sergeant Major Sean F. McLain

Sergeant Major McLain is a native of St. Louis, MO. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 10 April 1995 and completed Recruit Training at Parris Island. Lance Corporal McLain was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class and Lance Corporal during Marine Combat Training and Military Occupation School. Upon completion of initial training, Lance Corporal McLain was assigned to Marine Corps Logistics Base, Barstow CA, were he served as Subsistence Supply Clerk.

In June 1997, Corporal McLain was transferred to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego CA, where he served as Subsistence Supply Chief for Weapons Field Training Battalion, Edson Range. Sergeant McLain was released from active duty on 10 June 1999 and transferred to Charlie Company, 4th Logistics Support Battalion, Charleston, South Carolina (SMCR). Later that year, Sergeant McLain reported to Alpha Company, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion as an Administrative Supply Clerk. In 2001, Sergeant McLain completed Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense School and assisted 4th Combat Engineer Battalion in completing annual training requirements. In 2005, Staff Sergeant McLain deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and was assigned as a Watch Officer with CJTF-Horn of Africa (Djibouti), where he participated in force protection and anti-terrorism operations. Upon return from deployment, Staff Sergeant McLain transferred to Mobilization Command as a Peace Time/War Time Team member for RSP-3, where he served as Logistics Chief. During which time, Staff Sergeant McLain planned and coordinated semiannual Individual Ready Reserve musters.

In 2009, Gunnery Sergeant McLain reported back to Alpha Company, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, where he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. During which time, Gunnery Sergeant McLain assisted in the training and deployment of countless Combat Engineers in support of the Global War of Terrorism. In 2012, Gunnery Sergeant McLain was promoted to First Sergeant and was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Alpha Company, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion. In 2016, First Sergeant McLain was frocked to his present rank and assigned as the Squadron Sergeant Major for VMFA-112, MAG-41.

Sergeant Major McLain’s personal decorations include the Navy Achievement Medal and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.

Sergeant Major McLain is a Management Analyst with the Department of Veterans Affairs. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Masters in Counseling from Marshall University.
