Sergeant Major Robert W. Poor
Command Senior Enlisted Leader
23D Marine Regiment

Sergeant Major Poor enlisted in the Marine Corps on 28 January 1997 and left for recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, South Carolina in February 1997.  Upon graduating from recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training, Camp Geiger, North Carolina.  In August of 1997, Sergeant Major Poor reported to Aviation Maintenance Administration School at Naval Air Station Meridian, Meridian Mississippi and was assigned the MOS 6046.
 
In September of 1997, Sergeant Major Poor reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron - 142 (VMFA-142), Marine Aircraft Group 42, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, in Marietta, Georgia.  While serving in the Maintenance Administration shop, he held the billets of Maintenance Administration Clerk, Technical Directive Manager, and Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge.  During this period, he participated numerous Combined Air Exercises, and International Exercises Battle Griffin 99 and Tactical Fighter Weaponry 99.
 
In December 2003, Sergeant Major Poor accepted Active Duty Specialty Work (ADSW) orders and reported to Headquarters Marine Forces Europe, Stuttgart, Germany.  During this time, Sergeant Major Poor was subsequently mobilized and remained at Headquarters Marine Forces Europe until returning home in November of 2007.  While serving at Headquarters Marine Forces Europe, he held the billets of Training Chief, Command Operations Center (COC) Watch NCO, COC Watch Chief and Hospital Liaison Officer.
 
In July 2008, Sergeant Major Poor was mobilized and reported to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron-3, 3D Marine Aircraft Wing, in Miramar, California as the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Maintenance Administration Shop.  He was then deployed to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and was attached to Marine Air Logistic Squadron-16 (REIN).  He completed the mobilization and returned home in June of 2009.
 
In June 2009, Sergeant Major Poor reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron HMLA-773, Marine Air Group 49, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing in Warner Robins, GA.  While serving in the unit, he held the billets of Maintenance Administration Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in charge, Squadron Gunnery Sergeant, and Assistant Maintenance Chief.
 
In June 2015, Sergeant Major Poor was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant and reported to Personnel Retrieval and Processing (PRP) Company in Smyrna, GA for duty as the Company First Sergeant.  
 
In June 2018, Sergeant Major Poor reported to Kilo Company 3d Battalion, 23d Marines in Smyrna, TN for duty as the Company First Sergeant.
 
In June of 2019, Sergeant Major Poor reported to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines in Brunswick, ME for duty as the Company First Sergeant.  The battalion was mobilized for Unit Deployment Program 20.1 West.  During this time, he participated in Bilateral Exercise Fuji Viper, Forest Light and Northern Viper.  He completed the mobilization and returned home in June of 2020.
 
In June of 2020, Sergeant Major Poor was frocked to his current rank of Sergeant Major and reported to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron-49 (MALS-49) for duty as the Squadron Sergeant Major.  
 
In March of 2023, Sergeant Major Poor reported to 23D Marine Regiment for duty as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
 
Sergeant Major Poor's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with a gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Iraqi Campaign Medal.
