Sergeant Major Jerry D. Taylor is a native of Tallulah, Louisiana.  He enlisted in the U. S. States Marine Corps in May 1990.  Upon graduation of recruit training, he reported to Camp Pendleton for Marine Combat Training.  In June 1991, he reported to Meridian, Mississippi to Aviation Supply School.

In September 1991, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 32, Marine Aircraft 32, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing to serve an Aviation Supply Accounting clerk.  In November 1992, he deployed to Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing for six months.  In May 1992, he redeployed to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 14, Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.  In January 1996, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 12, Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing to serve as the Aviation Supply Accounting Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Optar Functional Category 50.

In January 1997, he reported to Drill Instructor School at MCRD San Diego.  After graduating from Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to Third Battalion, Kilo Company.  He served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor.  In April 2000, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 16, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing to serve as the Fiscal Chief.  In July 2001, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 16 to serve as the Supply Repairable Warehouse Staff Noncommissioned Officer in charge.  In August 2002, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 12, Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing to serve as the Supply Repairable Warehouse Staff Noncommissioned Officer in charge.  In September 2003, he reported to Marine Aircraft Group to serve as the Fiscal Chief.

In July 2005, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 11, Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft to serve as the Staff Noncommissioned Officer in charge of the Supply Consumables Management Division.  In December 2005, he was selected to First Sergeant.  In August 2006, he reported to 3rd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Aircraft Group 38, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing to serve at the First Sergeant for Alpha Battery.  He deployed in August 2006 to March 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom VI/VII and deployed in October 2007 to March 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Other tours as a First Sergeant include General Support Maintenance Company and  Motor Transportation Maintenance Company, 3rd Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistic Regiment  35 and 3RD Medical Battalion, Combat Logistic Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistic Group.

In November 2010, he was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major.  In April 2011 he reported to Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry West Camp Pendleton, California.  In April 2013, he reported to Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 38, Marine Air Control Group 38, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.  In December 2013 to July 2014 he deployed as the Marine Air Control Group 38 forward Sergeant Major in support of Operation Endurance Freedom 13.2/14.1.   In November of 2014 reported to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Marine Corps Installations Pacific. In March 2018 he assumed his current duties as the MAG-41 Sergeant Major, Fort Worth, Texas.

His personal award include the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal with two stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement with three gold stars.
