Sergeant Major, 4th Civil Affairs Group Sergeant Major Randy J. Buboltz

Sergeant Major Buboltz assumed duties as the 4th Civil Affairs Group Sergeant Major in December 2017.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 27 July 1989 and shipped to boot camp on 16 July 1990 and graduated as a Private First Class from Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California on 10 October 1990.  Upon completion of recruit training, he was assigned to Hotel Company at Marine Combat Training and Delta Company at The School of Infantry (SOI) at Camp Pendleton California.
After successfully graduating from SOI as a 0311 Rifleman, PFC Buboltz was ordered to Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines for service with Bravo Company, Marine Barracks in February 1991. PFC Buboltz was assigned to 1st Platoon, he served as a Fire Team Leader, Section Leader, React Commander, Corporal of the Guard, and Sergeant of the Guard.  He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 1 April 1991 and meritoriously promoted to Corporal on 2 March 1992.  Cpl Buboltz participated in Operation Fiery Vigil in 1991.  Cpl Buboltz reported to Alpha Company 1st Battalion 5th Marines as a Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader, and Platoon Sergeant in Jan 1993.  He served with BLT 1/5 on the 31st MEU from May – Nov 1993.  He was promoted to Sergeant on 1 May 1994.  In July 1994, Sgt Buboltz was transferred to the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR) after completing 4 years of active duty.

Sgt Buboltz served with 2nd and 3rd Longshoremen Platoon in Concord, California in 1994 and 1995, as a Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant.  Sgt Buboltz served with Marine Wing Support Squadron 471, Detachment Bravo from 1997 to 2001.  He was promoted to Staff Sergeant on 1 January 1998.  SSgt Buboltz was assigned to the Peacetime Wartime Support Team (PWST) from March 2001 to October 2003 in Green Bay and was mobilized during 2003.  He served as detachment Gunnery Sergeant for Detachment, Bulk Fuel Company “B” in Green Bay, WI from October 2003 to October 2005, and was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant on 1 August 2005.  He was reassigned as a member of PWST in Green Bay, WI from October 2005 to October 2008.  GySgt Buboltz was then assigned as the Engineer Platoon Commander and Det. GySgt for Det. 11, Green Bay, WI from October 2008 until April 2009.

He was promoted to 1stSgt and was assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, Milwaukee, Wisconsin from April 2009 until May 2012.  1stSgt Buboltz was assigned to H&S Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines in Chicago, Illinois from May 2012 to May 2013.  He was promoted to his current rank and assigned as the Sergeant Major of Marine Wing Communications Squadron 48 in Great Lakes, IL from May 2013 until June 2015.  SgtMaj Buboltz was assigned as the 14th Marines Regimental Sergeant Major from June 2015 until June 2017.

Personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 gold star, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 1 gold star, and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars.  SgtMaj Buboltz works for Spartech as a Plant Manager and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Cardinal Stritch University in Business Management.
