Sergeant Major Marlon A. Larose
Sergeant Major, 4th Civil Affairs Group

Sergeant Major Marlon A. Larose is a native of Georgetown, Guyana. He migrated to the United States in November 1992 and resided in Queens New York. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in March of 1993 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina in April of 1993. After graduating from recruit training in July 1993, he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) and in August of 1993 and was promoted to Private First Class.

In August of 1993, immediately after graduating from MCT, he attended Schools Battalion, Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) Crewman Course at MCB Camp Pendleton, California and graduated in October 1993. Private First-Class Larose reported to Charlie Co, 3rd Assault Amphibious Battalion 1st Marie Division (REIN) FMF, Camp Pendleton California in October 1993. From June 1994 to December 1994, he deployed with the 15th MEU (SOC) aboard the USS Cleveland and from April 1996 to October 1996, the 13th MEU (SOC) aboard the USS Duluth. During this period, he was promoted to Lance Corporal in April of 1994, Corporal in April of 1995, and Sergeant in July of 1996.

In April 1997, after successfully completing his initial enlistment contract, Sergeant Larose transferred to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR). In August of 1998, Sergeant Larose received orders to become a recruiter’s aide, and in September of 1998, Sergeant Larose attended Recruiter school at MCRD. From October of 1998 to February of 2000, Sergeant Larose served as a recruiter at Recruit Service Station (RSS) Brooklyn, New York. In February of 2000, he transferred back to the IRR to pursue an education in software development, where he attended and graduated from The Chubb Institute in October of 2000.

In November 2001, with influence by the events of September 11, Sergeant Larose reenlisted into the Selected Marine Corps Reserves (SMCR) at Bulk Fuel Co B, 4th MLG. In January 2002, Sergeant Larose attended Bulk Fuel School. From January of 2003 to June of 2003, as a newly promoted Staff Sergeant, he deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).

In August 2007, Staff Sergeant Larose was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Bulk Fuel Co B. From August of 2008 to January of 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Larose deployed on his second tour to Iraq in support of OIF, and served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant of Engineer Co, 7th Engineer Support Battalion 1st Marine Logistics Group. After returning from Iraq, Gunnery Sergeant Larose joined the Marine Corps Individual Reserve Support Activity (MCIRSA), formerly Peacetime Wartime Support Team (PWST) in Wilmington, Delaware and served as the Admin Chief until April of 2012.

In July of 2012, he was promoted to First Sergeant and served as the Company First Sergeant for Military Police Company B, 4th Law Enforcement BN, Force Headquarters Group (FHG) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from May 2012 to May 2015; and Battery First Sergeant of Battery G 3rd Battalion, 14th Regiment, 4th Marine Division from May 2015 to July 2016. Sergeant Major Larose was promoted to his present rank on July 1, 2016, and after transferring to the Individual Ready Reserves (IRR) from September 2016 to March 2017 due to a back injury, he transferred back to the Selected Marine Corps Reserve (SMCR) and served as the Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Aviation Logistics – 49 (MALS-49) in Newburgh New York from April 2017 to May 31, 2020. He is currently serving as the Sergeant Major and Senior Enlisted for 4th Civil Affairs Group (4th CAG), FHG in Hialeah, FL.

Sergeant Major LaRose’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medals.

Sergeant Major Marlon A. LaRose currently serves as the Sergeant Major and Senior Enlisted Advisor for 4th Civil Affairs Group, Force Headquarters Group, Marine Forces Reserve.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineer from the University of Phoenix, a Master of Science degree in Information Systems Technology (IST) from the Wilmington University, and a Doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership from Wilmington University. He currently works at Microsoft as a Senior Software Engineer/Consultant and at Wilmington University as an Adjunct Instructor of Technology.
