Command Master Chief, 4th Dental Battalion Senior Chief Gary Borges

Senior Chief Borges enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1998 and attended Advanced Paygrade Recruit Training Command New Orleans, Louisiana, earning Honor Graduate of his class.

HN Borges reported to his first parent command, Fleet Hospital Fort Dix, Detachment 6 as a drilling reservist.  In the summer of 2003 HM3 was ordered to Field medical Service School and awarded the 8404 Navy Enlisted Classification.  He then reported to Company G, 2nd Battalion/25th Marines Regiment, 4th Marine Division in September 2003 at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey as the Company Leading Petty Officer.  In October 2004 he reported to Marine Aircraft Group 49, 4th Marine Air Wing in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania where he held the positions of Group Assistant Leading Petty Officer, Training and Operations Leading Petty officer.  HM2 Borges completed his Aeromedical requirements and earned his USMC Ariel Observer and Aircrew designators on the CH-53E platform with Heavy Helicopter Squadron 772.  While with the “Hustlers” he logged in over 300 flight hours, being one of the first Hospital Corpsman to earn his Aircrew wings with the squadron.

HM1(FMF/NAC/NAO) Borges was then transferred to 4th MAW as the Wing Surgeon Staff LPO, where he was tasked to develop an aeromedical platform.  He was named the first ever MARFORRES CASEVAC Program Manager.  Here he developed and trained FMF Corpsman to serve as aviation medical specialists.  While serving in this capacity he was selected and initiated as a Chief Hospital Corpsman.  Chief Borges was selected to fill the position of 4th MAW H&S as the Command Chief.  Upon completion of orders he reported to MWSS 472 as the Leading Chief Petty Officer.  In 2010 he received orders to 3rd Navy Expeditionary Logistics Regiment as the Regimental Medical LCPO.  There he earned the Expeditionary Warfare Pin (EXW) and was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer.  HMCS Borges was then selected as the collateral Command Senior Chief of 3rd NELR which was decommissioned in October 2013.  In November 2013 HMCS Borges was recalled to active duty and mobilized to U.S. Marine Forces Central Command in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Nobel Eagle.  He held the position of Senior Enlisted Leader for the USMARCENT Surgeon and served as a Plans, Operations, Medical and Intelligence Officer (POMI) for MARCENT(FWD).  While mobilized he served in Afghanistan, Jordan, Bahrain, UAE, Oman and Yemen. 

Upon demobilization, Senior Chief Borges reported back to drilling reserve status with North Atlantic Treaty Organization-Allied Command Transformation (NATO ACT) Washington, D.C., serving as Detachment Senior Enlisted Advisor. 

He is currently assigned as the Command Senior Chief of 4th Dental Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group, Marine Forces Reserve.

HMCS Borges’ qualifications include: Fleet Marine Force Warfare (Ground and Air platforms), Naval Ariel Observer, Naval Aircrewman, Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, and Master Training Specialist(MTS).  His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4), USMC Expert Rifle Marksman badge (2), USMC Pistol Sharpshooter badge, US Army Expert Automatic Rifle badge, and other various personal and unit awards.
