Senior Chief Petty Officer Cesar Othon

4th Dental Battalion

Senior Chief Petty Officer Othon is a native of San Diego, California. After graduating high school, he entered the U.S. Navy attending basic training in NTC Great Lakes, Illinois in December 1999. In April 2000 he reported to Dental Technician “A” school at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas, for joint service training. Upon Graduating from “A” school in August 2000 he reported to Camp Pendleton, California, for Field Medical Service School.

In October 2000 he reported to 13th Dental Company 1st Force Service Support Group (1st FSSG), located at the Naval Branch Medical Clinic Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ. He was promoted to Third Class Petty Officer while assigned to the 1st FSSG and it was here where he qualified as a Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist. During this tour he was temporarily assigned to the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport California in 2001 and 2002, providing health services to U.S. Marines and allied forces.

In 2004 DT3 Othon transferred to the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Five (NMCB 5) in Port Hueneme, California. He deployed to Guam and Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. It was during this tour with NMCB 5 when he was selected to be advanced to Second Class Petty Officer and he qualified as Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist.

Upon returning from deployment he merged his rate of Dental Technician with Hospital Corpsman and was selected for second class petty officer. HM2 Othon left active duty service in June 2007 and immediately joined the Navy Reserve. He was assigned to Operational Health Support Unit San Diego (OHSU SD), DET B, in Phoenix, AZ and in 2009 he was promoted to HM1 and served as Detachment LPO. In 2012 he was selected for the rank of Chief Petty Officer and served as Detachment Senior Enlisted Leader. He was mobilized in 2013 with Joint Task Force Guantanamo where he served as the Operations Chief for the Joint Medical Group. In 2016 he was assigned to 4th Medical Battalion HQ Company 4th Marine Logistics Group where he served as Company Chief and in 2018 he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer. In 2020 Senior Chief Othon was mobilized as Senior Enlisted Leader of Task Force Resolve MCRD San Diego in support of operations related to DOD response to COVID-19.

Senior Chief Othon’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/1 golds star), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/3 gold stars) and various other unit and campaign awards. He is a Senior Enlisted Academy graduate class 224 (Red), holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Emergency Management, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Leadership from Grand Canyon University.
