A native of Pocatello, Idaho, Lieutenant Colonel Spurlock graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 1996.

 

Upon graduation from TBS and IOC, he reported to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, where he served as a rifle Platoon Commander and company Executive Officer, and deployed as the TRAP Platoon Commander for the 13th MEU in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH.

In May 2000, First Lieutenant Spurlock was assigned to Recruiting Station Denver, where he served as the Officer Selection Officer until June 2003.

Following graduation from resident Expeditionary Warfare School in May 2004, Captain Spurlock was assigned to 3rd Marine Regiment, where he subsequently deployed as an individual augment to Information Operations Section, Multi-National Forces Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

In June 2005, Captain Spurlock assumed command of Company C, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, and deployed to Regional Command-East, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In August 2006, Captain Spurlock was assigned to School of Infantry-West, where he would serve as the Company Commander for Advanced Infantry Training Company and Operations Officer for Advanced Infantry Training Battalion.

In August 2009, Major Spurlock returned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines and served as the Operations Officer and deployed to Regional Command-Southwest in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In July 2011, Major Spurlock reported to NATO Headquarters – Supreme Allied Command Transformation, and served as a strategic planner and Executive Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans and Policy.

From June 2014 to May 2017, Lieutenant Colonel Spurlock returned again to 1st Marine Division where he would serve as the Executive Officer for 7th Marine Regiment, and as the Division Command Inspector General.

In June 2017, Lieutenant Colonel Spurlock reported for duty as the Inspector-Instructor for 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division.

Lieutenant Colonel Spurlock is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College (with Distinction), and Joint and Combined Warfighting School.

LtCol Spurlock’s Awards include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Combat–V), Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
