Sergeant Major Narra enlisted in the Marine Corps on 2 January 1991 and attended Recruit Training at Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of Recruit Training he attended Marine Combat Training and later his MOS school at the School of Infantry both located at Camp Geiger, North Carolina.
After completing military occupational school in June 1991 Sergeant Major Narra was assigned to Enlisted Instructor Company at The Basic School located at the Marine Corps Combat Development Center in Quantico, Virginia where he served as an instructor for newly commissioned Officers both at The Basic School and at the Infantry Officer’s Course.
In January 1995, Sergeant Major Narra left active duty and join the Selected Marine Corps Reserve serving with the 81MM Mortar Platoon with Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment. Over the years Sergeant Major Narra served in several different billets to include the Mortar Fire Direction Chief, Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant and Platoon Commander.
In December 2001, Sergeant Major Narra and the Marines of Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment were mobilized and served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Sergeant Major Narra then deployed with 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment in March 2003 and served as the 81MM Mortar Platoon Sergeant during Combat Operations in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Upon his return, Sergeant Major Narra remained with Weapons Company and served as the Heavy Machine Gun Platoon Commander as well as the Company Operations Chief.
In May of 2008, Sergeant Major Narra again deployed with 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment as the H&S Company Gunnery Sergeant and fulfilled the duties as the Camp Korean Village Assistant Camp Commandant in Al Anbar, Iraq.
In June of 2010, Sergeant Major Narra was promoted to First Sergeant and assumed the duties as the Company First Sergeant for Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment and later as the acting Battalion Sergeant Major for 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines.
In June 2013, Sergeant Major Narra served a subsequent tour as the Weapons Company First Sergeant for 1stBn, 25th Marines in Fort Devens, MA.
In June of 2014, Sergeant Major Narra was promoted to his current rank and was assigned as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 2nd Bn, 24th Marines in Chicago, IL.
During his 3 years at 2/24, Sergeant Major Narra participated in several exercises to include Peninsula Express, the Korean Marine Exchange Program in Camp Mujuk, South Korea and Mountain Warfare Training at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, CA.
In May 2017, Sergeant Major Narra assumed his current billet as Battalion Sergeant Major for 2nd Bn, 25th Marines, in Garden City, NY.
Sergeant Major Narra’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/ 2 Gold Stars in lieu of 3rd award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd Award, the Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
Sergeant Major Narra has been employed as a New York City Police Officer for 20 years and is currently assigned to the Emergency Service Unit.
