Inspector-Instructor, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Kevin A. Shea

Lieutenant Colonel Kevin A. Shea assumed the duties of Inspector Instructor 3d Battalion, 23d Marines in June 2017. LtCol Kevin Shea was commissioned in May 1999 from the United States Military Academy.  After completing The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course, he reported to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, where he served as a rifle platoon and Combined Anti-Armor Team platoon commander.  He deployed to Okinawa, Japan on the Unit Deployment Program in 2001 and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM I in 2003.

From 2003 to 2006, LtCol Shea served as the Commanding Officer of Company I and as the Operations Officer for Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry (West).  

LtCol Shea attended the Expeditionary Warfare School from 2006 to 2007.  Upon graduation from EWS, he reported to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines.  During this tour he served as the Commanding Officer of Weapons Company and Company A.  He deployed to Ramadi, Iraq for OIF 06-8.2 and Al Taqaddum, Iraq in support of OIF 9-1.  In 2010, he was assigned as the Future Operations Officer, 8th Marine Regiment. 

From 2010 to 2012, LtCol Shea attended the USMC Command and Staff College and the USMC School of Advanced Warfare.

Upon graduation from SAW, LtCol Shea reported to 3D Marine Aircraft Wing.  As a planner with 3D MAW he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In May 2014, LtCol Shea reported to 2d Battalion, 4th Marines as the Battalion Executive Officer.  He deployed as the Battalion Landing Team Executive Officer with the 31st MEU to Okinawa for Spring Patrol 15.1.

After completion of his tour with 2d Battalion, 4th Marines, he was assigned to U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Fl.  While at USSOCOM, LtCol Shea served in the J5 Strategy Division and as a member of the Commander’s Action Group.
