Sergeant Major Alfred Scott left for MCRD San Diego on March 27, 1989.
Upon completion of the School of Infantry (SOI), Private First Class Scott was assigned to the 3rd Marines Regiment Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station as an automatic rifleman.
In January of 1991, Lance Corporal Scott deployed to OPERATION DESERT SHIELD to be followed shortly in OPERATION DESERT STORM. During his first enlistment, Corporal Scott participated in 3 UDP to Okinawa, 2 Combined Armed Exercises at Twenty-nine Palms, Cold Weather training at Mountain Warfare Training Center Bridgeport, and RIMPAC naval exercise. Corporal Scott transferred to the civilian sector in February 1993.
In January 1995, Corporal Scott joined the Hawaii Army National Guard, 25th Infantry Division Light, Division Rear Operation Center (DROC). He served as Operations Assistant and Communication Section Chief. Corporal Scott was promoted and successfully graduated as honor student at the Army Communication School at Fort Gordon, Georgia in October 1996.
In June 1998, Sergeant Scott joined 4th Force Recon Co. Kaneohe MCBH. During this tour with 4Th Force Recon Co, Sergeant Scott served in numerous billets; ranging from point man, assistant team leader, team leader, and Platoon Sergeant. He attended numerous reconnaissance related courses to include Army Airborne School, Basic Reconnaissance Course, Dynamic Entry Course, SERE, MC-5 transition Course, Military Freefall, and Close Quarters Combat Course.
In February 2003, Sergant Scott deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom serving with both1st Force Reconnaissance Company and 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In October 2007, Staff Sergeant Scott volunteered for duty with the MOBCOM IMA Det. Kansas City as a Reserve Transition & Retention Specialist. During his assignment with MOBCOM, he traveled to nearly half of the Marine Corps Installations briefing over 10,000 Marines on their obligations and opportunities within the Marine Corps Reserve. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant July 2008.
In January, 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Scott mobilized to MARFORPAC where he served as a Watch Chief in the Command Operations Center providing direct support for 2 presidential visits, 2 world crises, and several humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.
In May 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Scott was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. He was assigned as the Echo Company First Sergeant 2d Battalion, 23d Marine Regiment in San Bruno, CA. He participated with Partnership of the Americas in Jacksonville, FL, Dawn Blitz in Camp Pendleton, CA, and Integrated Training Exercise (ITX) in 29 Palms, CA.
In April 2015, First Sergeant Scott was mobilized to Wounded Warrior Battalion, Charlie Company on Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
In May 2016, Sergeant Major Scott was promoted to his current rank. He is currently assigned as Sergeant Major of 4th Force Reconnaissance Company, Alameda, CA.
Sergeant Major Scott’s awards include: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, Combat Action Ribbon with gold star, Presidential Unit Citation, Naval Unit Citation with bronze star, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with 4 bronze stars, National Defense Medal with bronze star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Defense Service Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 3 bronze stars.
