Biography

 

First Sergeant Jake A. Gigliotti

First Sergeant Jake Gigliotti enlisted in the Marine Corps in Baltimore, MD in 2003 and attended Recruit Training in June of 2003 at Marine Corps Depot, Parris Island, SC and Marine Combat Training, Camp Geiger, NC. Upon completion, Private First Class Gigliotti reported to Radio Operator Course in 29 Palms, CA.

In December of 2003, Private First Class Gigliotti transferred to 4th Civil Affairs Group in Anacostia DC. While stationed there he was promoted to Lance Corporal in March of 2004. In May of 2004 he was activated and received orders to deploy to Iraqi in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 4th Civil Affairs Group. While deployed, he was attached to 2d Battalion 25th Marines as a civil affairs Non-Commissioned Officer. During that time, he taught the Iraqi National Guard basic patrolling and weapons handling. He returned to Anacostia, Washington DC in May of 2005.

In June of 2006, Lance Corporal Gigliotti received orders for a second deployment to Iraqi with 4th Civil Affairs Group. Before heading to Iraq, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. While deployed he was attached to Fox Company 3d Battalion 1st Marines in Barwana, Iraqi as a civil affairs Non-Commissioned Officer. During that time he conducted civil reconnaissance of the local villages, assisting in the ability of the local Iraqi Police force to regain control of the village. He returned to Anacostia, Washington DC in May of 2007.

In July of 2008 Corporal Gigliotti was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Gigliotti was assigned as the Radio Chief for 4th Civil Affairs Group in February of 2009. In August of 2009, he was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Helmand Province, Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, he served as a Civil Affairs Team Chief in Nawa District Afghanistan and was attached to Bravo Company 3d Battalion 3d Marines. During that time he completed numerous small impact projects which gain the local trust of the villagers. He returned to Anacostia, Washington DC September of 2010 as the units Radio Chief, where he would soon be promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in September of 2012. Following his promotion, he was assigned as the Detachment 4 Chief. 
In April of 2015, he was selected for meritorious promotion to Gunnery Sergeant and was assigned as the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer for 2d Civil Affairs Group's Liaison Team to 2d Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC. While assigned as a Liaison Officer, he served as the G-9 Operations Chief during 2d Marine Expeditionary Battalion's Large Scale Exercise in 29 Palms, CA as the teams G-9 operations chief.

In 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Gigliotti left the liaison team and was assigned to 2d Civil Affairs Groups G-9 section. During that time, he supported exercise African Lion, Morocco as the CJ-9 Operations Chief. He worked closely with a member of  the Moroccan military, guiding him while he worked alongside NGO's responding to a natural disaster event. Immediately following the exercise, he was the J-9 Operations Chief during exercise Judicious Response 17.2, Camp Lejeune, NC November 2016. 

In February of 2018 Gunnery Gigliotti transferred to 3d Civil Affairs Group in Great Lake, IL to serve as the G9 Operations Chief. Soon after arriving, he attended Civil Military Operations Planners Course in Quantico VA and obtained the MOS of 0539. While working in the G9, he supported Exercise Cobra Gold 19 in Thailand as the CJCMOTIF Operations Chief. During this time, he conducted civil reconnaissance of the local area with multiple civil affairs teams.    

First Sergeant Gigliotti is currently assigned as the Company First Sergeant at Kilo Company 3d Battalion 25th Marines. 

First Sergeant Gigliotti's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star.
