Sergeant Major Adam C. Smith graduated from Elyria High School in 1999 and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina in 2000. Upon graduation he attended Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-East, where he earned the military occupational specialty, Infantry Rifleman, 0311.
Sergeant Major Smith’s operational assignments include: Rifleman, Fire Team Leader, and Squad Leader, Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines from 2000 to 2004, during which he deployed in support of the Unit Deployment Program, Okinawa, and Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom, Kuwait and Iraq; Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant, Kilo Company, 3d Battalion, 1st Marines, from 2007 to 2011, during which he deployed in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and Operation Enduring Freedom, Helmand Province, Afghanistan; Company First Sergeant, India Company, 3d Battalion, 6th Marines from 2014 to 2015; and Company First Sergeant, Kilo Company and India Company, 3d Battalion, 8th Marines from 2015 to 2018, during which he deployed as part of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa, and Forward Deployed Battalion-East, Okinawa.
His service outside the operating forces include: Canvasing Recruiter and Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, Recruiting Sub-Station Zanesville, Recruiting Station Cleveland, Ohio from 2004 to 2007; Master Faculty Advisor, Chief Faculty Advisor, and Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, Career Course, Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Camp Lejeune from 2011 to 2014; Command Senior Enlisted Leader, Deployment Processing Command/Reserve Support Unit-East, Camp Lejeune from 2017 to 2019; and presently, the Inspector-Instructor Sergeant Major, 6th Communication Battalion, Brooklyn, New York.
Sergeant Major Smith is a graduate of Military Operations in Urban Terrain Instructor Course, Infantry Unit Leader Course, Career Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education I, Advanced Course, Faculty Advisor Course, Primary Enlisted PME Course (US Naval War College), First Sergeants Course, Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education II, and has a bachelor’s degree in business leadership from Ashford University.
