Lieutenant Colonel James T. Martin is the Inspector-Instructor for 25th Marine Regiment.
LtCol Martin was raised in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey and graduated from the University of Scranton in 1996 and after USMC Platoon Leaders Course(combined), was commissioned a Second Lieutenant.
Upon commissioning, he reported to The Basic School in 1997 and continued to the Infantry Officer’s Course.
In September 1997, 2nd Lieutenant Martin reported to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment in Camp Lejeune and was assigned as a Platoon Commander. In November 1998, he deployed as part of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable).
In June 1999, 1st Lieutenant Martin became the Executive Officer for Co B, 1st Battalion, 6th Marines and deployed to the Panama Canal Zone as the USMC Security Force Co.
In January 2000, 1st Lieutenant Martin was selected to participate in the Supplemental MOS program. He attended the Marine Air-Ground Task Force(MAGTF) Intelligence Officer Course and received an additional MOS of MAGTF Intelligence Officer.
Upon completion of the course, Captain Martin proceeded to Camp Pendleton, California, and served as the Battalion Intelligence Officer for 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment.
In 2002, Captain Martin attended the Expeditionary Warfare School.
In May 2003 he again received orders to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment in Camp Lejuene. During this assignment, Captain Martin served as the Assistant Operations Officer, and Rifle Company Commander with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit(SOC).
In October 2004, he assumed command of the Battalion’s Weapons Company and deployed to Fallujah, Iraq as part of the 2nd Marine Division.
In January 2006, Captain Martin proceeded to the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab and assumed the duties as the Infantry Subject Matter Expert and Project Officer in the Experiment Division. He was promoted to Major in September 2006.
In 2008, Major Martin enrolled in the USMC “Security Cooperation Education and Training Center”(SCETC) Blended Seminar Command and Staff College;.
In 2009, Major Martin applied for and attended the United States Army’s School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Upon graduation he was designated a MAGTF Planner; MOS 0505.
In 2010, Major Martin reported to the 3D Marine Division and served as the Division Plans Officer. He was promoted to LtCol in June 2013.
In June 2013, LtCol Martin transferred to 4th Marine Regiment for duty as the Executive Officer.
In July 2014, LtCol Martin transferred to 25th Marine Regiment for duty as the Operations Officer.
In March 2016, LtCol Martin assumed the duties as the Inspector Instructor, 25th Marine Regiment.
In March 2017, he deployed to Central America as the Executive Officer for the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Southern Command 17.
In January 2018, LtCol Martin returned from deployment and assumed the duties as the Inspector-Instructor, 25th Marine Regiment.
His personal military awards include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, (3) awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Commendation Medal, (2) awards of the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal ; one with Combat Distinguishing Device, the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and (10) awards of the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
