Master Sergeant Justin R. Heiar

Master Sergeant Justin R. Heiar graduated from Northeast High School, Clinton, Iowa, in May of 2004. After high school Justin enlisted in the Marine Corps in September of 2004 and graduated boot camp from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in December of 2004 then attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton.

PFC Heiar’s next course of training was in Navy Air Station (NAS) Pensacola for aviation maintenance. After graduating honor grad he was promoted to Lance Corporal in April of 2005. After advanced composite material maintenance in NAS Oceana he was then assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of 6092, Aircraft Intermediate Level Structure Mechanic.

LCpl Heiar’s first duty station was aboard Marine Corp Air Station (MCAS) New River, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29 (MALS 29). In November of 2005 he was attached to HMM 365 “Blue Knights”. While with the Blue Knights he was promoted to Corporal in December of 2005 and deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, aboard U.S.S. Iwo Jima from June thought December 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

At the end of his deployment Cpl Heiar was attached to MALS 26 in MCAS New River as a work center supervisor and collateral duty inspector. In July of 2007 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sgt Heiar reported to Marine Corp Embassy Security Group in August of 2007.

His first embassy post was at American Embassy Nicosia, Cyprus from October 2007 to October 2008 as a watchstander. His second post was at American Embassy Abuja, Nigeria from October 2008 to October 2009 as the Assistant Detachment Commander and then Acting Detachment Commander. Sgt Heiar was promoted the rank of Staff Sergeant on July 2009.

His last post was American Embassy San Salvador, El Salvador from October 2009 to October 2010 where he was Acting Detachment Commander. During this period he was awarded a Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management.

SSgt Heiar was then assigned to MCAS Iwakuni, MALS 12 in October of 2010 as the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Airframes Division then later assigned to Production Control from September 2011 to October of 2013.

SSgt Heiar was assigned to MCAS Miramar, MALS 11 in October of 2013 through May 2015 as a Quality Assurance Representative and was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in November of 2014. From May of 2015 to January of 2018 assigned to Production Control.

On January 2018 GySgt Heiar was forward deployed with VMFA-314 as the Detachment SNCOIC and was awarded a Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal. Upon returning in April 2018 to MALS-11 he was assigned as MALS-11 Operations Chief and rotated in October 2019 to be the Airframes Division Chief.

Master Sergeant Heiar arrived at Fort Worth in August 2020 and is currently assigned as the Senior Enlisted Advisory for Marine Transport Squadron 1 (VMR-1) “Roadrunners”.

His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star in lieu of third award, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal in lieu of fourth award, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal in lieu of second award, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with three bronze stars, Navy And Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon with two bronze stars, the Marine Security Guard Ribbon.
