Sergeant Major Scott A. Johnson

Sergeant Major Scott A. Johnson is a native of Zion, Illinois. He enlisted in the United Marine Corps on August 1st, 1990, and was enrolled in the Delayed Entry Program, while completing his senior year of high school. Upon graduation in June 1991, he reported to Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego, California and graduated recruit training in September 1991, where he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class (PFC). PFC Johnson attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California and attended Motor Transportation School where he received the military occupation skill (MOS) of 3531. After achieving the highest-Class Grade Point Average, he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal in April 1992. 

Upon graduation of Motor Transportation School, Lance Corporal Johnson reported to Motor Transportation Platoon, Headquarters Company, 3rd Recon Battalion, 3rd Marine Division (MARDIV) on Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as a Motor Vehicle Operator and was assigned collateral duties as the On-Vehicle Equipment Noncommissioned Officer (NCO). 

In February 1993, Lance Corporal Johnson was assigned to Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3rd MARDIV, on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan as a Motor Vehicle Operator and was subsequently assigned as the Weapons Custodian NCO in the company's armory. In October of 1993, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. 

In April 1995, Corporal Johnson was Honorably Discharged from Active Duty and returned to his hometown of Zion, Illinois and entered the Select Marine Corps Reserves (SMCR) and was assigned to Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th MARDIV. 

In February 1996, Corporal Johnson transferred back to the Individual Ready Reserves. 

In December 2006, Corporal Johnson reenlisted back into the SMCR and was assigned to Data Platoon, Alpha Company, Marine Wing Communications Squadron (MWCS) 48, Marine Air Control Group 48, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW). Corporal Johnson attended the Tactical Data Network Operators Course at the Marine Corps Communication Electronics School in Twenty-nine Palms, California 
and received the additional MOS of Tactical Network Specialist - 0656. 

In June of 2007, upon returning from MOS school, Cpl Johnson was activated and augmented with MWCS-28 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08, and was deployed to the Anbar Province of Iraq, stationed on Camp Korean Village, where he served as the Communications Platoon Sergeant and Training Chief. Upon returning from deployment, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 
April of 2008. Sergeant Johnson continued to serve as Data Platoon Sergeant until March of 2011.

In March 2011, Sergeant Johnson transferred to Headquarters and Service Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th MARDIV in Camp Pendleton, California, and was assigned as the Data Chief for Communications Platoon. In April 2012, Sergeant Johnson augmented with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force (SPMAGTF), Black Sea Rotation Force in Constanza, Romania 
and was assigned as Data Chief. During this time, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and assigned collateral duties as the Command Element Company Gunnery Sergeant and special assignment as NCO Development Instructor for foreign forces. 

Upon returning from SPMAGTF in September 2012, Staff Sergeant Johnson transferred to the Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) program and reported to Deployment Processing Command, Reserve Support Unit West, 4th Force Headquarters Group in Camp Pendleton and was assigned as the Communications Chief. 

In August 2015, Staff Sergeant Johnson transferred to Headquarters & Service Company, Marine Wing Support Squadron 473, 4th Marine Air Group, 4th MAW and was assigned as the Data Chief for the Communications Platoon, Headquarters & Service Company. 

In October 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and reassigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Airfield Operations Company and subsequently assigned as the Acting Company First Sergeant. 

In 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Johnson was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and assigned to Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th MARDIV and served as the Company First Sergeant from August 2019 to June 2022. First Sergeant Johnson was subsequently assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Bulk Fuel Company Charlie, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Marine Logics Group from June 2022 to May 2023. 

In May 2023, First Sergeant Johnson was promoted to Sergeant Major and assigned to 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, 4th MARDIV. Sergeant Major Johnson's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award
