First Sergeant Colburn is a native of Windham, Connecticut, and graduated from Edwin O. Smith High School in 2000. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2006.
Private First Class Colburn completed recruit training at MCRD San Diego, CA as Series honor graduate in November 2006 and was assigned to Camp Pendleton, CA for Marine Combat Training School as a basic rifleman.
In December 2006, Private First Class Colburn received orders to Aviation A school Pensacola, Were he received a meritorious promotion to Lance Corporal (LCpl) for being the class platoon sergeant.
In April 2007, LCpl Colburn received orders to CNATT Marine Unit Cherry Point, NC for C school where he was once again class Platoon Sergeant. LCpl Colburn graduated and received the MOS 6282 Ejection seat Mechanic
In August 2007, LCpl Colburn received orders to VMA-214 who was deployed and ended up TAD excess at VMA-311. LCpl Colburn was promoted to Corporal (Cpl) in October of 2007. Cpl Colburn returned to VMA-214 in January 2008. Cpl Colburn earned his Collateral duty inspector qualification in August 2008, and deployed on the 13th MEU with VMM-163 in January of 2009.
In August 2009 upon returning from the 13th MEU Cpl Colburn received order to VMA-211 along with the majority of the VMA-214 Marines.
While at VMA-211 Cpl Colburn earned his CDQAR in December of 2009, Sergeant (Sgt) October 2010, deployed on the 31st MEU in December 2010 till May 2011, assigned to Quality assurance July 2011 and received his QAR, Deployed to Afghanistan in April 2012 and returned November 20012 Were he participated in the defense of Camp bastion flight line.
Sgt Colburn was promoted to Staff Sergeant (SSgt) in June 2013 and deployed in July 2014 to February 2015 on the 11th MEU.
SSgt Colburn received orders to VMA-214 in April of 2015 upon returning from the 11th MEU.
SSgt Colburn Deployed with VMA-214 November of 2015 on the 31st MEU During this time he was Promoted to the rank Of Gunnery Sergeant in April of 2016, and returned to MCAS Yuma in July of 2016.
GySgt Colburn took over as the Quality Assurance division Chief in May of 2018, and was frocked to First Sergeant in January of 2019
1st Sgt Colburn’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/3 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award and combat distinguishing device), and Combat Action Ribbon.
