Major Emily J. Maurer

Major Emily Maurer, a native of Lancaster, Ohio, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in English. She earned a Master’s in Public Administration with a focus on Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University in 2018.

Commissioned in 2012, Second Lieutenant Maurer attended The Basic School at Marine Corps Base Quantico and the Military Police Officer Basic Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. She then reported to 2nd Law Enforcement Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where she served as a Platoon Commander from September 2013 to May 2015. While there, she deployed to Kuwait executing a Customs and Border Protection mission in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. 

In June 2015, she held both the Battalion Training Officer and Unit Victim Advocate (UVA) roles within the same battalion until March 2016. During this time, she also participated in AFRICAN LION.

Captain Maurer was then assigned to Recruiting Station Cleveland in April 2016 as the Operations Officer and UVA until June 2017, after which she was promoted to Executive Officer of Recruiting Station Cleveland, serving until April 2019.

From May 2019, she served as the Executive Officer at 4th Law Enforcement Battalion, Dayton, Ohio, until November 2019. She then joined II Marine Expeditionary Force as the S-3 Alpha at II Marine Information Group, Camp Lejeune, where she served to January 2022. Beginning in August 2020, she also served as the Pistol Team Officer-in-Charge for the USMCR Marksmanship Training Unit until September 2024. 

Major Maurer’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, which she has received three times, one Gold National Pistol Competition Badge, one Silver National Pistol Competition Badge, and two Silver Division Pistol Competition Badges.
