First Sergeant Justin T. Cate

First Sergeant Justin T. Cate is a native of Stuttgart, Germany. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in October of 2006 and graduated from Fox Company, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. In January 2007, Private First Class Cate reported to Marine Combat Training on Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Upon completion he was sent to his Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) School in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he earned the MOS of 5811, Military Police.

In 2007 Private First Class Cate reported to Support Company, Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 374, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing, 29 Palms, California as a Military Policeman. In 2008 Lance Corporal Cate deployed with MWSS 374 to Anbar Province Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During the deployment he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal.

In December 2009, Corporal Cate reported to Military Police Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 17, I MEF, Camp Pendleton, California. From March to October 2010 Corporal Cate was deployed Helmand Provence, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While deployed he was combat meritoriously promoted to Sergeant. Upon Sergeant Cate's return he was assigned as the Military Police Company Training Non Commissioned Officer until January 2012.

In January 2012, Sergeant Cate received orders to United Stated Central Command (USCENTCOM), Tampa, Florida as part of the Protective Service Detail (PSD) for the USCENTCOM Commander. In January 2015 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. 

In June 2015 Staff Sergeant Cate was selected to do protection for the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and reported to Headquarters Marine Corps, Henderson Hall. Staff Sergeant Cate worked protection as an Operational Representative for Navy Criminal Investigations Services (NCIS) for two Commandants before receiving a Permanent Change of Assignment (PCA) to Quantico,
Virginia.

In November 2016, Staff Sergeant Cate was transferred to Provost Marshall Office, Security Battalion, Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia and served at Fox and Delta Sections Watch Commander until 2018.

In April 2018, Staff Sergeant Cate reported to Drill Instructor School Class 3-18 aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. After graduation, Staff Sergeant Cate served in Echo Company as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor, and was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant. He completed his time in Parris Island as the Second Recruit Training Battalion Operations Chief.

In July 2021 Gunnery Sergeant Cate reported to the Provost Marshal's Office, Headquarters and Support Battalion, MCB Camp Lejeune, where he served as a Platoon Sergeant, and Company Gunnery Sergeant.

In July 2023 First Sergeant Cate executed orders to his current duty station at Site Support (I&I) Billings, MT, where he se serves as the Inspector-Instructor Senior Enlisted Leader for Company D, 4th Law Enforcement Battalion.

First Sergeant Cate's personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
