Biography

 

Major Benjamin T. Mackey
Commanding Officer
Motor Transport Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 451

A native of Northern Virginia, Major Mackey is a 2013 graduate of The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina. After graduation, he completed the Officer Candidates Course in November 2013 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

After completing TBS and Logistics Officers Course in September 2014, Second Lieutenant Mackey was assigned as a Platoon Commander, Motor Transportation Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 451.

In April 2015, Second Lieutenant Mackey was mobilized in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division. While mobilized, Second Lieutenant Mackey deployed to Jordan as the Security Liaison Officer and H&S Platoon Commander, SECFOR Company FWD. Following the deployment, First Lieutenant Mackey was retained on orders at 1st LAR to serve as the Assistant Battalion Logistics Officer and subsequently the Primary Logistics Officer through 2016.

After the mobilization, First Lieutenant Mackey returned to Motor Transportation Company as the Company Operations Officer. During his tenure, First Lieutenant Mackey deployed as the Combat Logistics Company Commander for CLB-451 in support of Exercise AFRICAN LION 17. Subsequently, Captain Mackey worked as a civilian contractor as the DC I&L Liaison in support of 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, G4-Supply.

In December 2017, Captain Mackey assumed the role of the assistant Operations Officer to Combat Logistics Battalion 451. Then, in January 2019, he became the Detachment Commander, Detachment 2, Supply Company, CLB 451, while completing his MBA full-time at the Georgetown University, McDonough School of Business and attending the Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education
Program.

In October 2019, Captain Mackey was mobilized in support of Combined Joint Task Force – Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. He directly supported the CJTF-OIR command group and special staff as the Deputy Secretary of the Joint Staff in Iraq and Kuwait.

Upon his return in July 2020, Captain Mackey transferred to 3rd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, FHG to serve as the primary Logistics Officer where he supported domestic, international, interservice, and multi-national operations.

Major Mackey returned to Motor Transportation Company in January 2024 to serve in his current billet as Commanding Officer.

Major Mackey’s personal decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star.
