Lieutenant Colonel Robert Tart is a native of Staten Island, New York. He was commissioned through the NROTC program in May 2000. Upon completion of The Basic School, he reported to IOC and was designated an infantry officer.
After completing LAR Leaders Course, LtCol Tart reported to 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and deployed with the battalion to OIF.
From January to September 2004, LtCol Tart served with 2d Battalion, 1st Marines and deployed with the battalion to Fallujah, Iraq in support of OIF II.
From October 2004 to June 2006 he served as a series commander, company executive officer, and company commander at MCRD PISC.
From June 2006 to May 2007 LtCol Tart served with 1st Battalion, 24th Marines and deployed with the battalion to Fallujah, Iraq in support of OIF.
After graduating from EWS, LtCol Tart reported to 2d Battalion, 3d Marines where served as the assistant operations officer, a rifle company commander, and weapons company commander. He completed three deployments - one in support of OIF, two in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) - with the battalion.
From August 2011 to May 2012, LtCol Tart served as the Deputy Branch Head, Manpower Management Separation and Retirement (MMSR).
From May 2012 to June 2014, LtCol Tart served as a Faculty Advisor at EWS.
From July 2014 to June 2016, LtCol Tart served as the Executive Officer, 3d Battalion, 1st Marines. He deployed with the Battalion Landing Team in support of the 15th MEU.
From June 2016 to June 2017, LtCol Tart served as the Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General, I MEF.
From July 2017 to May 2018 LtCol Tart served as the future operations officer at Tactical Training Exercise Control Group (TTECG).
LtCol Tart is married and is the proud father of two boys.
