Biography

 

First Sergeant Rodriguez
Unit Senior Enlisted Leader
Co. A, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion

First Sergeant Rodriguez is a native of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He enlisted and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA on April 1998. Following recruit training he attended and graduated from the School of Infantry (SOI) -West in Camp Pendleton, CA. He earned his first military occupation specialty of machine-gunner (MOS 0331). Following SOI, he reported to Marine Corps Security Force Training Command in Chesapeake, VA to train and earn his second MOS of Marine Corps Security Force Guard (MOS 8152).

In July 1998, he received orders and reported to Marine Corps Security Force Company, London, United Kingdom. During this tour, he drank from the Bulldog Fountain in Belleau, France. He also successfully performed his duties for seven validated posts for the Commander-in-Chief, United States Naval Forces Europe. Before his tour was completed, he was promoted to corporal in February 2000.

In February 2000, he reported to 2D Battalion, 8TH Marine Regiment, 2D Marine Division in Camp Lejeune, NC. During this tour, he deployed with 3D Platoon, Company G, Battalion Landing Team 2/8, 24Th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable). He successfully held the duties of a fire-team leader, corporal's courses instructor, and rubber repairman for twenty zodiac boats. During that deployment, he was promoted to Sergeant, and was part of Operation Rapid Cheetah in Kosovo. In 2002, First Sergeant Rodriguez transferred to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR). 

In January 2008, First Sergeant Rodriguez reenlisted and was mobilized to serve as a Congressional Liaison for the Office of Legislative Affairs, Headquarters Marine Corps at the Pentagon, VA. During this tour, he worked with congress' caseworkers on congressional inquiries, completed the 33rd and 34th Marine Corps Marathon, and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in September 2009.

In May 2010, First Sergeant Rodriguez received Temporary Duty Orders to Marine Corps Forces Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL. During this tour he was the command's Training Chief, Limited Duty Coordinator, Voting Assistance Officer, and Uniform Victim Advocate.

In February 2011, First Sergeant Rodriguez decided to drop to the IRR. That same year, he joined his first reserve unit 3D Civil Affairs Group, Force Headquarter Group in Camp Pendleton, CA. In 2013, the united changed their name to 1st Civil Affairs Group. During this tour, he graduated from the Marine Corps Civil-Military Operations School and lateral moved to the military occupation specialty of Civil Affairs Specialist (0532). In May 2015, he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and successfully held the billet of Civil Affairs Detachment Chief. With the 1st Civil Affairs Group he participated in numerous Annual Training exercises such as Operation New Horizon in Belize, Operation Black Jack in Fort Irwin, CA, Desert Scimitar in Camp Pendleton, CA, Steel Knight in Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command and Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, CA, and also attended the Civil-Military Operations Course in Tuusula, Finland.

In February 2018, he was selected to be promoted to First Sergeant. Before he was frocked, he deployed with the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, Camp Union III, Erbil, Kurdistan region of Iraq. During his deployment he was responsible for de-conflicting humanitarian assistance missions by joint, inter agency, intergovernmental, and multinational organizations throughout the area of responsibility in Iraq and Syria. When he returned in October 2018, he was frocked to First Sergeant and inter unit transferred to Company I, 3D Battalion, 23D Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division in North Little Rock, AR.

In July 2021, First Sergeant Rodriguez assumed his current position as the Company A First Sergeant, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division.

First Sergeant Rodriguez' personal awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star.

As a civilian he works at the Miramar National Cemetery, National Cemetery Administration, Department of Veteran Affairs. His current position is the Lead Cemetery Administrator. He is also an entrepreneur and operates a mobile fitness center called Hard Knox Fit. First Sergeant Rodriguez has his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of California, Santa Barbara, CA and is currently enrolled in the National Security & Emergency Management master's program from National University.
